I'm just buying the cars I wanted as a kid, I'll need to up my game a bit for the 550 Maranello.

I always fancied a 288 GTO. I need a different game completely.

Nah I know.
I really want a e39 touring and a 3 Series convertible.

You could get a 550 to see if you like the brand, I'll take if off your hands when you get bored with it.

And of course, N reg, 1996 - and of course on my list: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ferrari-355-GTS-PETROL-MANUAL-1995-N-/182232397486?hash=item2a6de5b6ae:g:ZGsAAOSwmgJY2UbY

Fucking love those. Would have expected them to have gone up on price more.
As a kid I always wanted a blue 456 with caramel leather (as the practical family 4-seater obvs) and then an N/P Reg 911 Turbo as the fun car.

I'll pass. Front-engined Ferraris don't do it for me. If I was in the market for modern Italian exocitca, then it'd be a black Gallardo manual every time. In fact, I'm rather tempted to get one for the year it'll take the Trav to be restored. I mean, how much could it cost to keep a Gallardo for a year?
-
• #33785
Hardly anything at all I would think, 2-300 pounds tops.

Hmmm, I was thinking of adding a nought, and considering myself lucky if I got off so lightly. Which I wouldn't. Apart from anything else, the chances of me keeping a set of tyres alive on a Gallardo for a year is so vanishingly small that a decent scanning electron microscope would be needed to spot it.

Just put remoulds on it, what could go wrong?
-
• #33788
Do it. I drove a manual gallardo on track for a brief stint and it was great. Such a good sound, tactile open gate shifter... Totally lived up to my dream of driving a lambo.
Also f355, one of the few ferrari models I'd like.
Dreams...

It is tempting. One 5 litre V10 just isn't enough.
-
• #33790
And if you get a car trailer you can tow your v10 with your other v10.

Not sure if srs.
Front engined V12 Ferraris are proper Ferraris. The mid engined ones are pure footballer.
Chris Harris did precisely your Gallardo experiment and wrote it up for Autocar when they first came out. I can't remember what the result was but he definitely wasn't killed, so I'd say go for it.

IIRC he planned on making money on that, but didn't.

So it is starting to look like buying a new VW passat estate with a diesel engine back in 2014 was a poor decision. I had intended to run it to death and never buy a car again. Sadly doing that seems to kill children in schools, which I am not up for.
So, I think I'll be using the scrappage scheme if it comes along and selling it if not.
What should I buy instead? It has to be low emissions, preferably hybrid, although I park in street so plug in leccy would be tricky. Has to have long range, so pure leccy is out. Has to be an estate or equally roomy. Would like to be able to mount my Thule bike rack and top box on it.
Of secondary importance are nice to drive and gadgets, although I do like the latter.
I feel that buying new is the way to go, but am not ruling out second hand.
Suggestions?

All that rectilinear design is cool at least it made a statement. Bit of a classic that. Better than the blouse that is the range rover evoque who's target audience is chelsea mums despite what Rover "say"... Gah! Ignore me, Holy timeslip...

Lexus petrol hybrid ticks most of those boxes.
Other than budget, perhaps...

Should I get a 2010ish Renault Sport Megane?
I'm 38.
Will I look like I'm desperately trying to cling on to my youth?
I am, but I don't want to make that too obvious.

Clearly I need to become a scaffolder.

Ferrari FF? or too 2nd division footballer
Actually scrap that I just think the beauty of fast estates is that they can be driven whilst have stuff chucked in/up on. A nice weekend coupé or convertible I get babying.
