Front engined V12 Ferraris are proper Ferraris. The mid engined ones are pure footballer.
Chris Harris did precisely your Gallardo experiment and wrote it up for Autocar when they first came out. I can't remember what the result was but he definitely wasn't killed, so I'd say go for it.
I'll pass. Front-engined Ferraris don't do it for me. If I was in the market for modern Italian exocitca, then it'd be a black Gallardo manual every time. In fact, I'm rather tempted to get one for the year it'll take the Trav to be restored. I mean, how much could it cost to keep a Gallardo for a year?
