  • Daniel Blake is very good. Not terribly uplifting for a saturday night, mind.

  • Lion

Got me right in the feels. I was an absolute mess.

  • Life not very good then? Kinda looks like Alien set in modern day looking at the trailer.

  • "a dark song"

Not too bad, woman wants to do occult ritual in big house in the middle of the country, standard fare but it averts quite a few tropes along the way.

No horror shorts on the Belfast film Fest this year :(

  • Hard Eight on Netflix. PT Anderson's first feature film from 1997. Philip Baker Hall, John C Reilly, and Gwyneth Something Paltrow all deliver fantastic performances. Compelling characters and a relatively simple plot--understated filmmaking at it's best.

  • Hedwig and the angry inch

Musical coming of age feel good, normally not my thing but really enjoyed it.

Screened in a gay bar as part of film fest so that helped with the mood, everyone seemed to like it :)

  • One of my favourites, love that film.

  • The Void (2017)

Not bad, mix of survival horror and lovecraftian bits, I do wish they had put a little more time in dialogue and it would be a little less videogame-noisey near the end, but it kept the pace going.

  • Finally got around to seeing Get Out today. What a mindfuck of a film.
    Will watch again.

    Daniel Kaluuya bosses it.

I hadn't seen the trailer before and glad that I didn't.

  • Just back from GitS was visually cool and seeing HK locations was also good but all in all just ok, but it had a lot to live up to with the original animie.
And the thoughtful sacrlet face was anoying as was her purposeful hard core walk.

  • Take that back!?! :D

  • never!!! It was the "im in charge and a cyborge walk" that got me more.

  • more superhero nonsense. looks amazing. surprised it took them this long to use that song. no fucking brainer if ever there was one.

  • Looks great.

    A+ on song choice.

  • Well such pure Marvel-ous nonsense. Marvel Phase 3 is looking colourful...
    ...and the song

  • I dont know if it helps but it is made by the director of Eagle vs shark and What we do in the shadows.

edit: and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (that I havent seen yet)

  • You should it's ace (wilderpeople)

  • The handmaiden: Not suitable to watch with the parents ;) No munching on crisps in the cinema either, I wonder why...

Sardonic in places, perverted in others, good movie but couldn't quite get into it.

I found the "Duke of burgundy" more erotic/touching though it's a lot less explicit. Perhaps the cruelty in the handmaiden's story put me off a bit.

The level of detail in the handmaiden's sets, clothing etc. is amazing though.

  • Fast and Furious 8
    Very awful.

  • La Jetee: Brilliant but a downer.

Stalker: the Curzon blueray is shite, so get another version, but if you are into slow movies reflecting life it's great.

I think Tarkovski mirror was slightly better due to more coherence, but the concept of The Zone really worked for me.

Definitely see one of his movies his visual style is amazing.

  • Girls with all the gifts: great idea, fucks it up in the last bit.

    Split: shit.

The Void: promises more than it delivars. re-watch The Thing instead.

  • The Ones Below
Not bad, starts off as a slow burner, i was expecting a Rosemary's Baby theme, but it takes a non-satanic turn.
    All in not bad.
(It's a couple of years old, i saw it on Netflix or Amazon)

  • Yeah the void was ok, but no masterpiece.

  • I'm reading the girl with all the gifts right now. Enjoying it so far.
