Good question, thought it's those hybrid short-pull levers/shifter but look almost like an MTB one.

Indeed, it's a linear pull brake lever from my old mtb. It's not ideal but it works surprisingly well. Buying parts wasn't really an option since my friend is notoriously broke and it would have pushed the budget beyond the self-imposed 100€ limit for the full build.
p.s. while we're on the sibject and for future reference: what would be a good and reasonably priced option for side-pull flat bar brake levers?
