The lock ring unscrews anti clockwise of course, how are you holding the freehub? I would suggest something like an oil filter strap wrench.

As above. Bought a new set of wheels yesterday the seller left the lock ring attached to the freehub but for the life of me I can't remove it.
Is there a way to remove it without fucking the freehub up?
