How does rim width affect tyre profile?
If the same tyre is fitted on two different rims i.e. 17mm or 19mm is this a noticeable? -
• #4503
I don't think I would be able to tell the difference in ride or handling characteristics between a 17mm or 19mm rim. If I had sunk a stupid amount of money in a rim 2mm wider then I'd probably tell myself that I can tell the difference...

What's the best 700 x 25mm (or 26mm) gumwall clincher money can buy?
A bit late, but has no one else has said it - Veloflex Master. Far more resistant to glass cuts than Vittoria Corsa's, whilst still being a nice riding supple tyre.
Cheaper too - £50 for a twin pack on Ribble.I've been riding Veloflex Master/Corsa for a while now, and wouldn't have anything else for my nice bikes. Commuters still get Conti/Schwalbe though.

In regards to the sidewalk of the Specialized Turbo Cotton, the new 28mm have a wider context point that is less exposed to sidewall.

Good suggestion especially at that price. I actually have Master 23s on another bike.

Interesting comment re moulding, I've noticed quite a few marathons lately that are a bit wonky, probably 2 or 3 out of 20 I've fitted recently.

Veloflex don't come in 28, so what's my option. Not giving up on the gum

Wait for gravelking tan walls to drop.
Or buy Clements, think they're great, then have them disintegrate after ~500 miles.
-
• #4510
It's a road only bike, still worth looking at gravelkings over other road tyres? No gravel to be seen.

@PhilDAS Came across these in 25, might be available in 28 elsewhere?

Turbo Cotton or Corsa G+

I don't know why they're called them gravelkings - roadkings would be more appropriate. They're nice, fast, smooth rolling and have good puncture resistance/durability. Classic file tread much the same as many other road tyres. You wouldn't really want to ride them off road unless it was very mellow.

Tempted to go for 24mm turbo cotton, how are you finding it?
-
• #4517
I love Turbo Cottons. Best pure performance road tyre out there IMO, and surprisingly durable. Why go 24mm though? Wouldn't unless for aeros or clearance.
-
• #4518
Cause the width of the rubber is exactly the same on both 24mm and 26mm, only difference is that 26mm have more exposed side wall.
-

And i never had an issue with that in a whole year on 26s. And indeed have never had an issue with a tire sidewall ever.

One of the sidewalls on my last pair of Pave's has gone :(
I haven't used anything else since I started using these, has anyone used Pave's then Corsa G's are they as good, or should I be looking at something else?
Gravel Kings appeal but I think the 26mm will come up too big under the rear mudguard, I don't really fancy GP4000's but may have to just suck it up if they are better than Corsa G's.

Corsa G are awesome tyres, YMMV.

Oh I agree, just because there's more sidewall doesn't equal bad tyres, it just I like to er on the side of caution by going for a tyres with a wider contact point.
Specialized is going to release a new model in 28mm that also have wider contact point and less sidewall.
My measurements are always official.
