I suspect it was something to with the preparation of the steel, ( more/better required for water based paints),
and possibly something to do with the difference between the climatic conditions of South Africa, (generally warmer/less humid?), compared to the UK, (cooler /routinely damp almost perfect for the rapid onset of rust).I'm guessing that each successive model of E-Class uses thinner steel to reduce weight?
Was it the paint being the issue or poor quality thinner steel.
