  • Salt Yard on Goodge At was awesome when I went a few years ago.

  • Barrafina

I know, but not being able to book isn't ideal. We can't eat till 9pm at the earliest and they close at 11, so worry we'd be waiting for ages and wouldn't eat.

    Am I overestimating the queue?

  • It is good. But we alsways end up there, so wanted something different.

  • Maybe stretching the definition of central, but El Paradour on Eversholt St?

Not been there for many years but when I did, it was good. Afaik it's still run by the same family.

  • Iberica is pretty good. Duck Soup? Although haven't been to the latter for a while.

  • My goto used to be Brindisa, there's always space at the bar if a table isn't ready yet.

  • Copita is amazing. I love it there.

  • Thanks all, will have a look at these.

  • Any suggestions for somewhere quick and decent around Hackney Central? Cheers

  • Black Cat Café, 76 Clarence Road.

  • Any recommendations for decent cheap eats in Waterloo and surrounds?

  • best to walk down lower marsh, for cheapish eats, most places around the cut and the station are chains, so Wahaca, Byron, etc, if that tickles your fancy. Best speak to @Apone, he worked around Waterloo for ages..

  • Tai foood at a pup opposite evans is ok pint and jungle curry

  • If you like Thai the windmill pub on the cut gets my vote for a £9 Pad Thai and pint etc.

  • Thanks all. Thai and beer are always good....

Would prefer independent places over chains for a bit of variety I think

  • Maries thai cafe is my go-to - BYOB greasy spoon with very cheap and tasty thai food. Po-Cha Korean is decent if that's what tickles your fancy. People seem to like Cubanas for Cuban food and decent mojitos, but I've never been. There's also an ICCOs rip off (ECCO) which does serviceable pizzas for about a fiver. All of these are on Lower Marsh at Waterloo Bridge Rd end Masters super fish is consistently rated as some of the best fish and chips in London and is down near the ambulance station.

  • Can anyone recommend somewhere to take a creative and trendy client.
    Informal.
    Drinks and a meal.
    Round Seven Dials?

  • pizza hut. say it's ironic.

  • Explain the irony to me?

  • Hawksmoor?
    La bodega negra - informal
J Sheeky- bit stuffy but good service
    The ivy? ;)

  • chick'n'sours
    Blacklock
    The French House

  • I went to J Sheeky a couple of weekends ago.

There was a group of annoying city-boys on the next table who were telling a good story about a colleague of theirs who was involved in some kind of business with some shady middle-eastern gentlemen. The London guy got cold feet and tried to back out of the deal, but the other end of the equation, from Lebanon I think, turned up to a meeting with photos of the London guy's wife dropping his kids off at school, and saying what a pity it would be if something happened to them.
Apparently that's why the bloke handed his notice in unexpectedly and took a job in New York.

Anyway, the fish pie was ok, but the smoked eel was amazing.

Would rather go to Hawksmoor though.

  • Pub for Sunday Lunch within a reasonable distance of waterloo short tube ride is ok) that's parent friendly?

  • Laughing Gravy is good (but not that cheap ~ £18 for the roast).
