I guess that's because the manufacturers would prefer to play it safe, rather than get bad press of failing frame under heavy riders riding outside of the 90th percentile conditions. Case in point is all road genesis, for which I believe they're using CdF tubes, when in all honesty they could probably get away with much lighter gauges 99% of the time. A custom builder know exactly for who and what style of riding they're building.
tl;dr what he said.

Edit: I have several steel bikes from different tubesets and they feel different. But wtf do I know, one is fixed with 32mm tyres, one is a road bike with carbon wheels and 25 mm tyres, one is a mtb etc etc

Bingo.
TBF it make a lots of sense having seen how people abuse their bicycles.

Love the orange, similar idea to my gringo minus a baby seat and trailer!

This steel talk is dull, let's get back to the bikes.

V brakes haven't been fucntional since 1999

It's because most custom built frames aren't built/tested to ISO/EN certification

I love this build. I've also got 1993 Kona Lava Dome and done it up but it's far less functional.

Geekhouse bikes just look so rad

Bike was built around those brakes

Anyone used a pinnacle ramin?
Looks to have rigid fork with 3 hole bike pack etc mounts ala surly/salsa. Also mounts on back for guards or rack.Seems pretty good for the money, lazy solution to my need for a new off road trips, off/on road commuter, trailer puller and kids seat lugger

They're decent non-nonsense MTB, best to try it out first thought.

Can't remember if we're allowed selfies here? Mrs TM and my bikes functioning as a bike rack earlier.

Ed have you seen one in flesh? Just wanted to check the forks had the mounts. I'm not too bothered about spec, I'd be changing a fair few bits I already have like good wheels, bars, racks, etc off my old orange

Have you found the Wald baskets interfere with cable movement as you steer at all?
edit: also are those 137s or 139s?
-
• #15071
The Woodrup has a Wald, not sure on model but think it's the biggest? The Argos has a cut down shopping basket mounted to a minoura porteur rack. No problems with cables, they are routed down the back of the baskets, never been an issue.

What gripshift are on the woodrup?
Been considering them for a Townie built but heard it quite easy to broke down -
• #15073
It's a microshift, seems to work fine. Shimano also do 6/7/8 speed tourney grip shifts which are a bit ugly but have proven durability.

Front pouch for spare battery?
The other point is that there is a big difference between mass produced 853 and hand-build 853.
Even thought I had a mass produced decent steel frameset, it still feel overbuild and dull* compare to a lovely custom steel frameset, especially the fork.
