Good point Howard, he gave me his business card at the time though, so I rang him (the mobile number on the card) from my work phone and saw him get the call, so I'm confident he's legit. That's the thing, he was a doddering old guy, and was frantic with guilt (probably partly due the police being on the scene) so frankly I was more concerned he was going to drive off and have a coronary at the wheel.

I hope the driver's details are legit. The police should have checked them at the scene.
