Old bike conversion bits and bobs needed

Posted on
  • I'm converting an old Falcon frame to STI shifters for my son, as a bit of a project together. We're doing this on the cheap...
Maybe this shouldn't go in the Wanted thread - but I'm not sure... so here goes.
    We need:
Downtube clamp-on cable stop (28.6mm tube)
    Chainstay clamp-on cable stop
    1" Head set
    Crown Race for 1" fork
Band on Shimano Triple Front Derailleur (28.6mm)
    8 Speed Shimano shifters

    Thanks for your help.

  • I've got a new/modern DT cable stop, old style c/stay clamp and an Ultegra 6603 clamp on FD.
Also have a Sora 8 speed (old style), no left though.

  • Thanks Mr_Bump!
I'm interested in all those excepting the lone shifter perhaps.
How much for Front Derailleur? I don't want to spend much, as it's not a fancy 'all matching' spec I'm working with!

I'm in SE3 (london) - hows best to hook up?

  • I've got 8 speed sti Shimano shifters, working well. (Think they are also sora)

Pm me if mr bump hasn't already sorted you out :)

  • I'd prefer to get a pair - so these would be grand.

  • £20 posted (it's actually a 6503 not 6603 but same cable pull) bought it a couple of years ago intending to convert one of my older frames but I just don't have the time/trying to let some frames go. The adjuster bolts have been cleaned and relubed and the pivots/springs have had a squirt of liquid grease and the spring is tight as a drum, I think it's worth all the money, they're not easy to come by in that size in decent nick as I found to my cost.

The stay cable stop is a NOS bagged shimano with the bolt/nut plus a couple of gear cable crimp ends I'd like £8 posted for that, both together £27 posted
I can't find the DT stop but they are readily available on fleabay/SJS cycles.

I'm in North Herts so posting only viable option
    let me know either way

  • Thanks for the pictures. Looks great. I'll take them, but I'm a little confused about how the chainstay stop works - does it just have the one hole to stop the cable or is there another that isn't visible.. I've never used one before, but assumed the cable goes through one hole and is stopped by the other...

  • Just as any other cable stop brazed onto the frame, big hole toward the rear to let the outer cable through, the outer cable end or the ferrule then butts up against the hole that lets the inner cable through. Doesn't actually matter too much if there's no ferrule on the outer cable like in the pic due to the outer cables longitudinal wires.
    PM me.
