  • Just dropped my decrepit N5, think I've finally killed the screen/digitiser... Balls, N5x is still being repaired in Hong Kong...

  • case for my pre-ordered S8+ just arrived already. fuck me it's Yuuuge.

  • Only borked because I smashed it screen first into the gate at a tube station... Battery has been on the way out (is any device immune from this) but the rest was running ok. It was pretty good for the money I thought.

  • Missus is back on my old Galaxy Nexus. Maybe I should buy her a new phone for her birthday?

  • I had a Nexus 5 (caught fire) and then a 5X (just stopped working one day) -- in both cases Google and LG were pretty good about replacements.

Meanwhile, I swapped to a Huawei something-or-other (one with two cameras). The hardware is much better in every aspect than the Nexus line. Software is slightly unusual. It's a Huawei variant of Android and then I have the Chinese version which makes things wonkier still... but overall I reckon its maybe better than the Nexus.

  • I was looking to install a new ROM on my phone (Moto X Play) and it appears Cyanogenmod is no more.

Is LineageOS the one to go for or is it worth looking at AOKP or anything else?

  • I've borrowed a Samsung Mini Neo off a mate til my N5x comes back from repair...

    IT'S HORRIFIC!!!

  • I CAN'T EVEN CAST YOUTUBE VIDEOS TO MY SMART TV!!!

  • ^ That should be all caps...

  • I was gonna call first world problems, but then I remembered where you live.

  • Oz invented WiFi, you lot would still be stringing cans together without us.

    Cans of Fosters, no doubt.

    Because you love Fosters.

    Fosters. You love it.

    Yeah.

  • Anyone know where TWRP stores the backups? Backup is happening, my space goes down and I can browse them in TWRP but can't find them anywhere on my phone. Tried searching for the backup name, large files and anything edited in the past day and coming up blank.

Using Nougat with SD card as adopted storage which could be part of the issue.

Googling throws up answers from years ago which doesn't seem to tally with the adopted storage.

  • Mine's is a folder in "SD Card" called TWRP/Backups and then serial number of phone. That's not with adopted storage though.

  • I find this app incredibly useful for finding large files.

  • I have a folder called TWRP but it appears to be empty. The backup path on TWRP shows up as

    /external_sd/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/ZY2224LZ95/

but god knows where that is in reality.

It's surprisingly difficult to find a 15GB file.

  • Cheers, I have that (it is very useful) but the backup file just shows up as part of System and you can't drill down further on that.

  • I'm now starting to suspect that the backup file is actually in the /storage/emulated/0/TWRP but I don't have permission to access it. The folder is there but clicking on it just gives an error, trying to access it in terminal gives permission denied (even with su).

In fact, I've now found it. I used terminal to dump a list of every file in my system to a text file and it's in there. It's accessible at

    ./mnt/expand/d8eb6503-ae7b-4dfe-b8a7-531a54cdf049/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/

    Strangely the rest of

    ./mnt/expand/d8eb6503-ae7b-4dfe-b8a7-531a54cdf049/media/0/

is just my SD card with the same files but going via that route I can access the TWRP folder, not really sure why.

  • Replaced screen and digitiser on Nexus 7 1st gen. No display. Device is warm while charging.

I should just throw in the bin?

  • Galaxy S8 is arriving today, much excite.

  • Had to push delivery back to tomorrow on mine as not going to be home for delivery today :(

  • Missus has fixed her N5 a few times now. Looks like there's a connector for the screen/digitiser that comes loose, causing the screen to turn off. Anyone got a permanent fix for this?

  • A Little dot of superglue.

    Very permanent mind you.

  • Got the s8+ yesterday. It's such a beautiful phone and screen. I'm hoping more video's and games will take advantage of the weird aspect ratio though.

Coming from the note 4 which was a big enough phone. This isn't as wide but is quite a bit taller.

Still not sure if i should have gone for the + or not, mate has the s8 and it seems a bit more comfortable in hand. The extra battery may come in to play for me though, only time will tell.

Haven't had a chance to use any of the new samsung tools as yet, but they are all usually very gimmicky. We will see.

  • I'm all about the Xcover 4 at the moment...
