• hate how much I post in this thread -

loaded my bike into car yesterday to drive to my parents before going to mallorca on tues. got some chain oil or something on the rotor of the front wheel (idiot!) and now the brake is squeaky and fucked (assume I have contaminated the pads)

pads have only got like 100 miles on them so would like to save them. what is the best technique? heating them up? (I heard you can't do that with organic pads, are the standard shimano ones organic or sintered?)

haven't got any isopropanol handy at my parents. what can I get from nearby hardware store to clean rotor

    thanks all again!

  • New pad time

You can try to heat them with a blowtorch to burn off the oil though this probably will not work.

It is unlikely you can wash them clean with alcohol.

  • New pad time

Not necessary, thoroughly cleaning them and sanding them down before getting new pads.

Need alcohol anyway to clean rotor.

BUT it could be wheel not sitting straight or pads misaligned due to levers being squeezed without wheel.
