Did you only read part of what I wrote?
I'm sure Bernie wouldn't have wanted the specatators to have nothing at all, and would have even wanted the cars out behind the safety car, or a repeated formation lap, but not at speed - just so the cameras and the spectators had something to see. Of course, for the sake of safety the cars cannot race, but it dosn't mean they cannot go around the track, and at least keep spectators a bit entertained. It is an entertainment sport is it not? Thats what Bernie would have done differently. And of course, he wouldn't have allowed racing when they was no safe medical evacuation. There still could have been some entertainment though, instead of what we just had.

I did, and I disagree.
Why would the teams send out cars in those conditions?
-

The conditions were perfectly driveable; there was only some drizzle at the track. Generally visibility and conditions were fine for racing. But at the hospital, 38km away, conditions for the medi-heli to land, were very poor. Racing could have happened on track, but there was no way for a medical evacuation to be effected, so thats why racing of any type was red flagged. However, some parade laps would have been absolutely safe to do, and it would have been something at least for the fans would made the journey (including one of our forumengers I believe).

I understand the reason behind the red flag. I don't understand why the teams would want to send cars out for endless parade laps. Nor do I understand why that would be a spectacle for the fans (@BQ can let us know whether he would enjoy watching that.)

I didn't bother going for Friday as it was torrential rain here.
Beautiful sunshine today though. Should be good for qualifying -

Giovinazzi & Hulkenberg showing pretty strong this season!
Looking forward to the race tomorrow, hope we get some wet weather!
Good to hear the FIA have a backup plan for a road escort so don't need to rely on clear skies in Shanghai.
^ Hope you don't get too wet! ;)

I'm loving Massa's effort. 6th shows that the old dog still has some fight left.
-
• #6134
I don't think Giovinazzi will be getting a permanent drive, somehow.
-
• #6135
Lance Stroll isn't doing himself much good either. Alonso shows his worth yet again, but with a Mercedes drive out of reach, and a poor rapport at Ferrari making a return not so likely, his future isn't looking very positive. It's a shame. I think he might beat Hamilton in the same car over a season.

Alonso is like a side show these days, he's better off retiring he's not going to get a another go at a top team at 35 plus his being Alonso baggage
-
• #6137
Alonso already had the chance to do that and he couldn't. I think he's best off going to sports cars like the rumours had it. He's not got a reputation for playing nicely with others though, or for loyalty.
Stroll at least didn't manage to smash his car up twice in one weekend. We were at the circuit for the Porsche Carrera Cup race at about 11am and the poor Sauber mechanics were still working hard to rebuild Antonio's car. They must have been working since qualifying the day before. I think they will all be glad to see him return to Ferrari.

I'd be willing to bet Giovinazzi will be a future WDC contender. Able to jump into a modern F1 car and be as quick as a guy who's been doing it for a few years is no small feat.
Not entirely surprising to lose the car where he did in either situation. Hoping Wehrlein decides to sit out the next one so we get a good estimate of his speed over a normal weekend.
Also, that overtake by Vettel, wow!
-
• #6139
He smashed up a car on the pit straight. Twice. How on earth do you do that?
-
• #6140
Getting a wheel on the astroturf on corner exit and spinning up, pretty common mistake that drivers make on a drying track.
Getting caught out by a wet patch in a dip on the pit straight, again, not an uncommon mistake.
-
• #6141
Not learning from the first time is a bit Maldonado-like. Anyone can spin, but doing so in the same area twice.......
-
• #6142
Is it just me seeing it as two different causes to the accidents then?
I mean what are Sauber to do? Neither Wehrlein nor Giovinazzi can manage that corner. I guess they're best just running one car for the rest of the season given the dire quality of their drivers.

Massa came back, so I wonder if Jenson would.
-
• #6144
Personally I feel F1 would be better with both of them retired in order to make room for some younger, more promising drivers.
At least Alonso still has some fight left in him.

Alosono is off to have a crack at the Indy 500. Hopefully he does well.

McLaren really need to get their shit together.

Yet another bit bit of evidence for Andrew Benson to step down.
Not a single piece of evidence in the entire article that states that Jenson will get the seat.Don't get me wrong, I think he's the most likely option. But that is a dreadful attempt at journalism.

I think McLaren have their shit together.
Honda need to get their shit together.

Benson is a wanker and would bath in
Hamilton's shit if he had half a chance.I'm sure there must be atleast one other journalist within the BBC that could write about F1?
Medical helicopter can't operate, there can be no race.
Nothing to do with Bernie.
