On another subject, but a recurring one: the crazy heretic theory according to which a saddle bag is for classic geometry bikes, here's a picture I found demonstrating that my bag wouldn't reach the rack to use it as support, rendering the bagman relevant... I'm using an antique version of the QR system on this bike, which has a very classic geometry.

If it makes you feel better, my seat post/ rack height is too small for my Carradice to sit properly on the rack.
-
• #904
@pastry_bot there's a special bag for that.
-
• #905
On my 57/58 Holdsworth it'd sit nicely. Will post a picture asap
-
• #906
It would sit on the rack if you didn't have that wierd thing high up behind the saddle it attaches to. Most people attach them to saddlebag loops or even >shock, horror, oh the shame< hanging off the saddle rails.
-
• #907
It would also sit better if you had an older frame that was oversized with a super slack seat tube and a style of seat clamp and saddle that pushed it way forward, a la Gaston.

Stop winding me up you short legged monsters!
I'm off to the Ortlieb thread! -

Short people are known to bite ankles in that thread too.

Borrowing these two handlebar bags from my dad for a possible mini tour which I quite like, albeit they could do with a bit of a tide (replace elastic/velcro). However they are designed to clip on to the decaleur type thing. However this isn't designed for os 31.8mm stems/bars, any ideas for making/hacking something similar? Was considering trying to get hold of some aluminium/steel rod of similar dimension and (hand?) bend it?
Other thoughts were to use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/201814164307?lpid=122&chn=ps&adgroupid=40208487538&rlsatarget=pla-470338995312&adtype=pla&poi=&googleloc=9046398&device=c&campaignid=738085096&crdt=0
or see if carradice would fit a klick-fit mount to them?

I suspect sending to carradice (if they would do it) likely the best option, but am guessing that might involve more money than buying a new carradice bag.

This sale is nothing to do with me but there appears to be an unused SQR Glentress on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unused-Carradice-Carradry-SQR-Saddle-Bag-pack-FREE-DELIVERY-/361931842996?
I have one of these and it's a great bag that's been discontinued for a good few years. Smaller than the other SQR ones (about 5 litres whereas the other SQR ones are all about 15), you can still fit a decent amount in and obviously it's very waterproof and pretty tough.

In answer to a question further up, here is my barley on my Spearfish on the ride to Leicester

Nice looking handlebars on that spearfish!

Does anyone have for sale, or know where I can buy, the old style quick release attachment for a Barley / Nelson etc? It was the metal clamp with two metal levers that pull in spring loaded metal rods.
The old equivalent of this new version:
I haven't used this new type and think it looks a bit meh.
I'm also open to rave reviews of the new one.
My old one got nicked with my Condor and I miss being able to grab the bag and take it with me when I lock up.

The one pictured does have the sprung metal rods as you describe, worked well for me when I used to use one.
This pic shows the mechanism better.

Ah. I see.
Right ho, I'll grab me one of them then.
Thanks.
-
• #919
I bought one from Condor about 6 months ago - it has the springs etc and enables you to grab the bag off the bike fairly quickly.

Just rewaxed my sqr slim using "gold label" wax and a hair dryer. Intensely satisfying melting the wax into the cotton!

Anyone here use an SQR? I've managed to snap one of the bands on mine and wondered if anyone and a spare... Seatpost is 27.2 mm so one of the bands for <=32 mm would be spot on.
Alternatively, I'm happy to split the cost for a new pair (as sold by Carradice) with anyone looking for a spare. -
• #922
Send them an email and chances are they'll send you a new one, they replaced parts of my bagman no questions when they broke.
-
• #923
Yeah, they replaced mine when it snapped. It might have helped that I was ordering a whole spare bracket at the same time, for another bike.
-
• #924
Fair enough. I ordered a pair from sjs but will email Carradice. I did have rather a lot in the bag so I didn't feel it was unreasonable for it to let go!

Anybody managed to mount a quick release saddle bacg clamp to a front rack/basket or similar.
basically have a super C audax and want to use it on another bike on the front.
@veLLo you're too modest, they look good.
They might have other 531 spares but there's this. https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/carriers-racks/thorn-531-rear-rack-stay-190-mm/
If I'm right these dont go though the 8mm round clamp hole but could get bolted on with the same bolt as tightens the "gizmo" to the carradice?
Brompton have some as well.
