and prefer the dt swiss.
Have these. Why you prefer over Kinlin?

The quality of finish is better imo.

32h with that depth may be too stiff though
What spoke count have you got on the fixed set? I don't have to run 32h. Would 28/28 be ok?

£70??? that's quite a lots, nearly twice as much compare to even Evans Cycles.

• #5881
Yeah, they wanted £80 if I provide all the components... Anyway, I've just laced the wheels up and will pass them over to local cycle surgery to finish for £40...

Yeah, I've got both and like both. But I mean, they're just rims - there's not much to say about them :)

too stiff
Never had that complaint before, nurse.

A fair number of shop starting to do that now despite the fact they would not be able to source the rims/hubs themselves!

I'd wanted to use my actual local at £80 as I join their weekend shop rides but can't really afford them, or retail on anything they sell bar brake pads and tubes... I guess they are aiming at a different target audience - they sell eTap'd Parlees and full Maap kit to wealthy banker/lawyer types...

They sell MAAP stuff? Thought Sigma only do that!
I guess they can afford to charge them that, as long people are wiling to pay for it, there'll always be a market for it.

They have to buy from a UK distributor whereas the big boxshifters buy in enough volume to go straight to the manufacturer.

Yeah I'm on 28/28, 2 cross db spokes with high flange hubs. I noticed a distinct increase in radial stiffness from the archetypes they replaced, any more and I think they would become too harsh. If I was going to to it from scratch I'd probably go for 28/24 for commuting duties.

Hey, just looking for some help on rim/tire size and old/new compatibility :)
I am currently running on these 622 x 13 modern rims... I've been reading alot of confusing stuff about 27" being larger than 29" tires and that?!
Im slowly restoring my old raleigh superbe... I only inherited these wheels (initially temporarily) when I buckled the previous ones so these skinny little racers will be replaced with older touring rims eventually, that im going to re-build, but for now i need to change the tires because im getting too many punctures city riding!
Will they fit my current rims? and would they be okay to fit on older inch based rims (that i havnt bought yet)?

Yes, 700C = ETRTO 622
and would they be okay to fit on older inch based rims (that i havnt bought yet)?
No, an old English bike with 27" wheels means ETRTO 630, i.e. about 8mm larger diameter than 700C

80/85 psi f/r, 25mm (measured) tyres, 72kg. Too much/low?

I'm a lot heavier (100kg and change). My "28C" tyres are a true 26.5mm and I use 5 bar front and 6 bar rear (72/87) for mixed tarmac/gravel. You should certainly experiment with lower pressures if you are finding your current settings anything like harsh.

Thanks for the info!
Could 27" tires work oversized on the current ETRTO 622? -
• #5896
Nope
-
• #5897
No - the 622 and 630 are the respective bead seat diameters, so if you get the bead of a 27in tyre seated on one side of a 700c rim, at the other side it'll be nearly a cm too far out.
(And yes, 29er rims/tyres are also ETRTO 622, so the same diameter rims as 700c and smaller than 27in ...)

Would someone mind checking my list for an upcoming build?
Miche Primato high flange hubs
24h front
28h rearKinlin XR22T's
ERD 596mm (from Cycleclinic website)DT Swiss Alpine III's
Spoke length calculator (for 2 cross front and rear) gave me 281.5mm for rear and 284.9mm for the front. Sound right?
So, do I buy 281mm and 285mm? With 14mm brass nipples?
Thanks in advance.

I get the same numbers, provided the values given on this database for miche primato high flange hubs are correct that should be fine.
Who are you going to have build them?
The xr31t is what I'm rolling on now on my Look as well as my fixed commuter. Ride really well, but I've had issues with brake judder but this seems to be reducing as the rim wears.
32h with that depth may be too stiff though, I'd consider the shallower xr22t or the r460. I've had both and prefer the dt swiss. Get offset for the rear for sure.
