  • Cheers! Any experience of met helmets? I quite like the look of the rivale and it's not as ridiculously pricey as specialized/kask etc.

  • Not personally, I do remember trying a Bell in Evans once which also fit very well. The thing I like about Lazer is that the tensioning system seems to adjust to your whole head rather than just pushing it forward like Spec do.

  • I just tried a strale. Felt good, looked good, more length than a Kask but not as wide as a Giro. Only negative I found is that the fit system has a habit of moving up a couple of clicks if I look up. Not sure if that'd be a problem when riding though.

  • Considering buying a Giro Savant, does anyone know if the other Giro helmets fit the same? I wouldn't mind something a bit more snug.

  • I ordered medium and large Rivales from Wiggle to try.

The large fits and feels ok but looks MASSIVE. It juts quite far forward, is very wide and feels like I'm wearing a cheap '90s helmet backwards.

I can just about squeeze my head into a medium, but it feels quite tight and I def wouldn't be able to get a cap under it in winter. Also, still looks huge and weird from the outside.

I think I'll send both back, need to try on a few other helmets.

  • They are really cheap and shit helmets IMO.

  • Yep, that's the conclusion I've come to. They look crap and feel crap. Ordered from Wiggle to try for £105 each, was then going to send back and order from somewhere else for £65, but I don't think they're even worth that.

Will keep looking for something else.

  • I have a Giro Savant, and whilst it is comfortable and I think it fits well functionally, it looks fucking massive. I have a big head, but it seems that the helmets I have tried on that fit appear disproportionately large and give the mushroom look.

I see other helmet wearers and they don't seem to have the same issue.

The Savant is near the end of its useful life (the adjusting strap at the back is coming apart) so I'm not just replacing it for looks. I would just like the next lid to not be as "goofy" looking, if at all possible.

Are there any particular brands/models that are more low profile? Like I said, my head's already big enough, I'd like to be able to add as little to that dimension as possible.

  • Is there anywhere these can be tried out?

  • I think the "I look like a mushroom" feeling comes from being so used to seeing your own head in a mirror, that whenever you see it with this additional crash basket on top, it looks mahoosive (also being fairly close up). At least that's what I tell myself whenever I see myself in a helmet. Kinda the opposite theory to why men always underestimate the size of their tool when in the locker room with all the other boys.

  • Also, I'll say it again, big head over here and Lazer seems to sit lower than Spesh.

  • Lazer seem pretty lo-prof.

  • Kask mojito/protone is pretty low profile

  • Cheers @chiroshi & @croft - anywhere you recommend to go try on Lazer's?

I had mostly been trying on more expensive Giro's and Specialized

I get what you're saying about your own reflection (same with hearing your own voice, I suppose). If it comes to it and I still can't see any difference I'll likely end up with the most comfortable in my chosen price range. It would just be good to add lo-pro into there too

  • I'm afraid our dealer network in the UK is very limited. But I know these guys in Summerbridge have them in stock https://www.stif.co.uk/info/about

Anyway, we finally have some decent pictures on our website, and we do ship to the UK. https://sweetprotection.com/sp_no/bike/helmets-and-protection/roadhelmets

It got a somewhat narrow fit, so I as a 58-59 can use a medium.

  • Cheers :). Bit of a risk and potential inconvenience to return to Norway, especially at £250.

  • Have you tried the new Bell helmets at all? The fit on the Zephyr and the Stratus is great. We've got them for a whole team and I've only had positive feedback on the fit.

  • Not yet, but I've spotted a couple online and like the look. Any idea where in London stocks them?

  • Come on, have some faith ;)

  • I'd get a mojito if it fit properly but the bell stratus looks promising. Would like to try a lazer but the z1 is a bit too pricy.

What about some less obvious ones like the mavic or endura?

  • No Lazers at The Cut Evans. Of all the stock they did have, the Savant was still the most comfortable. If no physical Lazers appear for me to try on, I may just go for a new Savant.

The Bell Stratus in a Large was HUUUGGGEEE

  • What about some less obvious ones like the mavic or endura?

I find a lot of sense in buying things from manufacturers who specialise in that one thing.
Kask helmets, Sidi shoes, Oakley glasses etc.

  • Don't think I've tried a Kask. Who normally has them in stock?

  • Cycle Surgery
