I got my disc bike out of the basement after 4 months, my rear brake pulls back all the way to the bar now and is making a right squeal, is it likely it has leaked and contaminated the pads? I've heard the Shimano flat mounts are prone to this.

sounds like it :(

hate how much I post in this thread -
loaded my bike into car yesterday to drive to my parents before going to mallorca on tues. got some chain oil or something on the rotor of the front wheel (idiot!) and now the brake is squeaky and fucked (assume I have contaminated the pads)
pads have only got like 100 miles on them so would like to save them. what is the best technique? heating them up? (I heard you can't do that with organic pads, are the standard shimano ones organic or sintered?)
haven't got any isopropanol handy at my parents. what can I get from nearby hardware store to clean rotor
thanks all again!

New pad time
You can try to heat them with a blowtorch to burn off the oil though this probably will not work.
It is unlikely you can wash them clean with alcohol.

New pad time
Not necessary, thoroughly cleaning them and sanding them down before getting new pads.
Need alcohol anyway to clean rotor.
BUT it could be wheel not sitting straight or pads misaligned due to levers being squeezed without wheel.

Dishwasher at your parents? Chuck it in. Or hold them over the hob for a few seconds. A gas hob, mind :)
It's unusual for a small amount of random gloop to completely bury a set a pads. It usually gets burnt off by the heat generated by braking.

yeah, they're the best price/performance, they make the cables for Shimano and others anyway.

will try that. I did actually bring a few sets of brand new pads with me incase of this happening
-
• #3661
bit of hob action and some filing sorted them out. methylated spirits on the rotor and good as new. hopefully no funny business on the flight to mallorca tomorrow

I like the italian term. "Freni a Disco"

re burning off the contamination isn't there a trick of dousing in lighter fluid and lighting them?
-
• #3665
I'd still use isopropyl, no residue.

pointless nonsense

Late April fool?
Whatever, it looks shit, so I'm out.

Tell people it's aero, sell thousands.

utterly gopping and pointless

And mounted on the wrong side of the caliper, so messes with pad contact.
-
• #3671
Is the price too steep on these, or just a limited market?
-
• #3672
Left hand leaver with a front brake hose, and it's spendy to get the right hand leaver counterpart I'd imagine. And it's a post mount caliper. So pretty limited, yeah.
Someone will want this but you might have to wait a while until someone crashes and brakes one :)
-
• #3673
Only left hand, price is still good tho.

I wouldn't say I was overtightening them but either way that's the end of the dt Swiss rws skewer...
Somehow stripped the entire thread out of the thingy/end nut.
Bit gutted...

Warranty? Worth a shot sending them an email.
I'd try the GT85 + lube hack first TBH
