  • Vittoria make a wheel with an exalith type coating and wider rim (coating done in same factory as mavic apparently) bit cheaper than mavic

    also the new dt swiss oxic dicut

  • Can try special order those as we don't sell them annoyingly, trade price are decent with Mavic hence the Mavic, less so with Campag/Fulcrum, but they are definitely better.

  • @edscoble been riding them quite a lot on a RCC Canyon's and it really is v good braking. The surface definitely turns silver with enough use though. Very stiff, light and spin up quickly though. But yeah. Not wide.

  • If it's Sunday best I'd be more inclined to get some 202s.

  • Sunday best kinda pushing it, I intend to take it with me aboard to says, Sierra Nevada, Pyrenees, etc. a la @amey but without the taxes.

    Braking surface always gonna wears sorta expecting it to turn silvers at some point I think I'll go for the Mavic, also a vanity thing as grey rims and gumwall tyres always look good.

    As for the rim widths, the good new is that the one I order is the 2017 model, which now sport a 17mm internal width;

  • Yeah but amey mavic trade prices are stupid good so w/e

  • I think you can still sign up for MySpace for free too

  • a la @amey but without the taxes.

    that will end soon tho #triggered

  • Can anyone advise which is the better wheelset: Campagnolo Bullet Ultra 50 Cult - or -Reynolds Assault SLG? (clinchers)

  • You might be lucky to find someone who's ridden both but Campag/Fulcrum wheels have a good rep for bring well made. Love my Bora Ones.

  • Anything else out there that's recommend over the cosine 32mm wheeleset, for similar money or cheaper?

    Will be used on the wife's bike for commuting.

  • I have Campagnolo Scirocco 35's on a winter bike and they are truly fantastic for the money. They're noticeably faster than my £600 low profile DT Swiss hoops. They look great too. Often see them as low as 180.

  • Campagnolo Scirocco 35

    Fulcrum Racing Quattro LG is essentially the same thing but with a more sensible rim width and evenly spaced spokes.

  • Ironically I was looking at Fulcrum Racing 3, and the Campagnolo Zonda C17, the latter is better price, similar weight and also wider.

  • I've done around 3500 all-weather pot-holed miles on my Scirocco's and not once have they needed tweaking. They still run as true as the day I got them. The spoke pattern should not be of any concern...unless of course it's an aesthetic thing. Only gripe would be the overly clicky rear hub, but then again some people like that

  • I have the zonda c17 , nice fast wheel quite stiff very pleased for the money

  • He didn't says that they are bad wheel, just that the alternative is a better choice, especially the rim width.

  • unless of course it's an aesthetic thing

    It was purely an aesthetic comment, I've no reason to suppose that G3 is any better or worse than evenly spaced spokes, but some people do find it a bit aesthetically-challenged. On the other hand, the rim width is a real thing, and I don't know why Campag are being so slow to move on the Campag branded wheels when they already have the extrusion dies for the Fulcrum branded product. Wiggle price on the Quattro LG is only £10 more than the Scirocco 35, and the wider rim is easily worth that.

  • I think I'll be getting that instead, as for the money, it better than the Fulcrum Racing 3.

  • looking for a set of bomb proof wheels for my wee brother. will be used on canal paths, pavements, going to the pub, rallying the bike up and down kerbs etc i.e. not your genteel saturday sunday tarmac only club rides nonsense

    I have a set of fulcrum racing 7 LG CX and they've been bombproof for all road riding, and some vitamin G. these a half decent buy under 150£ for this use case?

    also what tyres do people recommend for general just kicking about? paselas still?

  • 130mm spacing?

    Paselas work well, but TBH the Lifeline one work great for the money;

  • good question. think the spacing is 130. it's this bike, which in this pic is sporting shimano R500 wheels which I'm sure are 130. if I remember correctly, the spacing wasn't perfect though and when removing and replacing the rear wheel I had the 'ease' the frame a bit (good old steel)

  • not sure those lifelines will clear in that bike. I ran 25s previously, but italian race bike from the 90s... not sure 28s are a goer

  • good question. think the spacing is 130. it's this bike, which in this pic is sporting shimano R500 wheels which I'm sure are 130.

    I'll be frank, he sound like he's better off selling it and getting a Pinnacle Neon.

    Edit: or this;
