  • Are Power Torque cranks that much worse than UT for installation / removal? I need to downgrade from 175 to 170mm and the price difference / availability is appealing. Looking at you @mdcc_tester...

  • Yes. UT can be removed with standard tools that most cyclists own, for PT removal you need a bearing puller (and it might even be a proprietary bearing puller).

  • Installation is no problem, as andyp says it is removal that's the problem.

    There are now specific bearing puller kits for PT though.

    There is "Power Torque +" which doesn't need a puller, but it was only introduced with Potenza so you won't be saving any money over UT.

    A quick search shows the cheapest PT are around £60 new and you can get NOS UT from eBay for similar.

  • The last time I removed some Power Torque cranks I ended up using an angle grinder. And buying some new cranks.
