  • I think this washer is meant to avoid creaking and for better force distribution. I have veloce crankset lying around with this washer missing, so be careful and don't lose it.

  • According to race face you need to install a 3,5mm elastomer non drive side and a 1mm spacer both drive and non drive side:

Just googled race face deus and found this...

  • Just need to chop a little off the top my fork, and throw pedals and my chain on :)

  • so that's just a washer?? surely if that's got a bit of play that's no massive deal??

  • Friend of mine has asked for help as he wants a nicer bike. He has a budget of £150, for something completely different or, has suggested I could do up his current one:

Quite tempted by the challenge but wouldn't really know which direction to take it in.

If it's possible to fix it up super cheaply and use a couple of nice parts on it then it could be viable I guess?

he just cruises around commuting etc on it so it'd need slicks, and could be single speed or 1x gearing with flat bars and thumb shifters.

Think he's also up for running it single speed. He's completely clueless anyway so it's kinda hard to discern what he wants.

  • You could temporarily remove the rear derailleur and let him try it in single mode for a bit. If it works for him then you have a direction.
Either way if your friend is a little clueless, and you're up for a project that will not be worth an hourly rate but could cement your rep, go with the current frame.

  • Get an old school mtb for less than a hundred, then spend the rest on tires, cables, grips and a chain.

  • pair new conti slicks: 20
    deore rd (ebay): 10
    thumbshifter (ebay): 5
    nicer crankset: 20
    new cassette and chain: 25
nicer bars, bit of sweep: 10
    nicer grips: 10
    nicer stem: 10

will feel like a new bike

  • Cheers for that. I think I'm missing the two 1mm rubber seals, plus the spacers on my bb aren't 2.5mm thick. Even with the extra spacer I've put on then, I think it adds up to the gap I can see.

  • Bikebuilders on lfgss; are there any cable stops that you can braze that works for a full cable outer after the stop?

So that is: Full cable outer from drops > to barrel adjuster that sits in the cablestop > full cable outer to bb.

    Why? Neatness mostly.

  • Do you want to just protect the cable? If so just run a bit of liner, I do it on my 29er to keep the cable from getting damaged.

  • @spotter Well yes, but it doesn't look as neat I reckon and the worry of having bikepacking bags that would squeeze the cable and liner, making it not work properly. And mostly because of grime and stuff that makes the cable worsen in harsher conditions.

I might be completely wrong ha, but it makes sense in my head.

  • I don't see why you couldn't do the same with normal outer and some end stops, might increase the friction a bit.

  • Hmm, well then you have an opening between outers where moisture can find it's way into. But on the other hand you'd have an opening where the adjuster sits so that might be moot. I just want a solution that you fit and forget for some time.

  • I'm not really into MTBs, but that thing looks like serious fun!

It is man! I've been busy during day time so have been hitting up hard packed trails in the forrest at night. Once you get off the flat pavement it starts getting fun. Loving it so far.

  • That's a nice one. I'm looking after those Veggieburger pedals since a while. If you don't love them, hit me up ;)

    Nice color too.

Thanks! You've got a rad stable dude. Which bike would you use them on?
Taking these pedals off the bike would be just wrong though. Who does that? Nobody @Thrasher! I actually know a guy that has a silver NOS pair but won't sell.
If any doc bars come around I'm certainly interested.

  • New fixie

  • Muy Bueno!

  • Thanks for the advice on the MTb front guys. All good considerations!

I'm tempted to try and find something complete / almost complete for a good price, then spend the remainder of the budget on replacing things like the chain tyres, bb if needs be etc.

if anyone has a small vintage Mtb / hybrid / cyclocross biek taking up space hit me up ;)

His current has quite a brutal rattle can job so not sure it's worth keeping. I doubt he will have removed many of the components before spraying. Will decide once I've taken a look anyway

  • Needs black rims to tie it together better. Other than that it looks fun!

  • one of my forum favourites for sure

  • Been waitin for this. Rad

  • Found this little beast for my girlfriend on local listings for a very decent price. The condition and paint are amazing! Compact geo since 1992 @Klein

  • Fuck that's cool
