  • Picked this up at the weekend:

To say I am smitten would be an understatement, I have a stack of receipts that include all servicing done at the main dealers plus a new engine under warranty and a 2nd rebuild + gearbox rebuild by Mercedes at 120k, the 1st owner had it from new until 2007 and 167k, I am the 3rd owner. Coupled with the restoration the 2nd owner had done in 2013 and main dealer servicing in Italy & France while he traveled around in it, I am feeling quite chuffed.

As a bonus my kids have informed my wife that the Landrover cannot be sold either.

BTW does anyone have any suggestions for a modern radio that i can hook an ipod up to that looks retro and is not a Becker Mexico (£2500!!!)

  • Fackin' nice one.

  • This tye one sold by the overseas gentleman? Never can quite tell with those ones if legit or not but this one sounds like it is!
Couple of nice sl and an 500/560? Sec a few streets over from me, like the idea of one, but needs to be estate

  • Yes, the guy lives in La Rochelle...Ex army Captain. First owner was a Doctor...

  • First owner was a Doctor...

  • BTW does anyone have any suggestions for a modern radio that i can hook an ipod up to that looks retro and is not a Becker Mexico (£2500!!!)

Becker Indianapolis or (the one I have) Becker Cascade Pro

  • Thanks, look interesting

  • There are quite a few nice looking OEM Beckers that pop up on ebay for £100-200.

If you're lucky you might even find one out of a Merc.

I have Blaupunkt Stockholms in my old cars because German, simple looking, DAB, Bluetooth and USB.

  • I had the hood down over the weekend, put it up today- the milky line has reappeared in the plastic window where it has been folded. Plastic windows days are numbered.

  • Silicon blades for drying the car quicker - are they going to fuck my paint up?
Obvs it would only be used after initial rinse, two bucket clean & final rinse had been done.

  • I use this stuff: https://www.autoglym.com/rapid-aqua-wax-complete-kit

Spray the panel whilst it's wet, wipe it dry with a cloth, bosh:

Makes things a lot faster than wash, dry, wax.

  • At the moment, i'm using Meguiars wash / wax most weekends then once a month a wash then wax.

Might give the above a try.

  • they get a bad rep in general, if there is any trace of any tiny bits of dirt or anything you drag it across the panel and can cause fine scratches etc.

aquawax and a chamois to dry is a decent quick detailer

  • le 'brover's MOT report: one dim lightbulb. replaced for £6.

  • f there is any trace of any tiny bits of dirt or anything you drag it across the panel and can cause fine scratches etc.

Also true of chamois and microfibres...

  • Randomly came across this sort of wacky racers thread:

    http://gradix7.freehostia.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2590

  • Chamois more so, microfibres do at least have some level of pile to 'absorb' particles

    -------> detailers forum

  • Basically it's best to keep your car in the garage so it never needs washing.

  • My wife is reporting a strange intermittent fault where the clutch pedal gets stuck in the 'down' position, clutch won't disengage, she has to stop & stall the engine, pull the pedal back up with her hand, then carries on as if nothing happened. Has occurred maybe 3 times in a month (car in use daily). I can't see anything wrong with the pedal mechanism, clutch action seems completely normal when i drive it. Any thoughts?

  • Car is a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, had a new clutch 18 months /20,000 miles ago and a new DMF about a year ago

  • Hydraulic clutch? Air bubble just popping in and out of the line, prob just above/behind master, bleed the shit out out of it.
Cable clutch, replace, almost always cheap, get genuine, most parts shop cables come half way seized kind of a feel as standard

  • When my master cylinder was shitting the bed, this happened. Granted it was a 69 Benz so probably inapplicable.

  • Thanks, makes sense. I have to drive this car to the Alps on Sat... not much clutch involved tho
