It's actually a good letter, very jargon and legalese free.

Yes, it's quite readable, which I suppose you would expect from such an important letter something that seeks to win favour, emphasise opportunity, avoid 'punishment', etc. The response from the EU reads appropriately too, albeit against the apparent backdrop of a strengthening resolve to work as one to protect collective EU interests (i.e. no 'deals').

I suppose if Europe had remained as the EEC and not engaged upon the process that saw it become the EU none of this would have happened, and the Daily Mail might still be of that opinion.

Mitch Benn was one of the best things about The Now Show. Wish he still made a podcast.

Mitch Benn is an arrogant cunt. I met him once in a tent. He was being a cunt about a beef burger.

Correct me if wrong:
The 'Great Repeal Bill' means incorporating all European laws (even ones we don't want) into British law.
And likely Brexit means being given what we are handed in one-sided negotiations (with the EU and others) as the weaker partner with a diminished world standing.
If legislature is going to be tied up for years 'Taking Back Control', then surely we are going to end up more Euro than a Brexiters worst nightmare?
-

Yes, all the EU laws will become our laws (which it itself will be a huge undertaking), and then we will be able to change them, but that will take years. And presumably a lot of companies will lobby to keep many of them as it will make their trading with Europe easier. So, there will be vast amounts of work (that could otherwise be spent on far more useful activities), and not a lot will change. Other than perhaps some knee-jerk jingoistic stuff.
Mark Elliot (among others) wrote about the Great Repeal Bill a while back.

Top tip - If (like me) you are married to an Italian you can get an Italian passport, even if you don't speak Italian and have never been to italy. At least if this disorganised, undemocratic, xenophobic and economically suicidal nation gets too much for me I can move to a disorganised, undemocratic, xenophobic and economically suicidal nation with nice food and sunny weather.

How many people are killed by terrorism in Europe every year, compared to skipping in the bath for example? I'm pretty sure they'll take the money.

More to the point, will this sort of rhetoric lead to an increase in the snubbing of Fadi's and embracing of Kenny's at George funerals?
Well, I'm applying to tranfer to schools in Denmark, France, and Germany so that's how I'm hoping to be moving forward-I appreciate not everyone might be so fortunate (if even I might not be myself) but having already done one recession I'm not doing another, and I'm also hedging my bets for what kind of country I might like my own progeny to be acclimatised to. Basically, fuck another X years of this shit-if the IndyRef 2 works out I'd move back but I'm not holding my breath for that either. I'll be happy to be a remoaning libtard somewhere else that isn't an exploitative tax haven...
