It says in the rules they need to somehow collect proof of their route/position with pictures of key turns/reference points/shops receipts
-
• #428
Anyway, stop freaking out everyone, they are in the hills, it's normal to have scattered positioning systems, but on top of that, they still have 1000km ahead, it doesn't matter if they are +/- 2km ahead of each other

Yeah, and here's the rest of it too:
The race will be tracked through an online tracking service, using rider supplied GPS tracking devices (SPOT, or similar). Final placings will be based on GPS tracking data and racers will not be included in final results if a tracker is not used. Riders are responsible for ensuring the correct use of their tracking devices. Riders with devices that are switched off or not active for lengthy periods of time may be excluded from the final results.
Riders must ensure their tracking devices (SPOT or other) are operating correctly at all times. Riders should realise that turning off a tracking device could be seen as a way of hiding behaviour that is against the rules. If a rider’s tracking device is not functioning then that rider should be extra diligent in collecting records to prove their location at all times. This could take the form of photographs at key intersections, keeping Garmin (or other) tracking files for later proof, collecting receipts at resupply points, etc. Riders should be concerned about proving their location at all times.
Atleast in TCR you're still allowed to turn the tracker off when sleeping, for safety and to save batteries. And in TCR you can get a new tracker from the checkpoints, but this race doesn't have those.

So Mike appears to be 1km ahead now.
-
• #431
Fuck its close now isn't it. Those climbs would be absolutely shithouse with that many km's in your legs, especially in the dark.
-
• #432
Someone local says in facebook that Kristof is moving, but only just left, 34 minutes ahead of Mike.
And now the tracker seems to be working again.
-
• #433
Updated finally... Mike is the new leader of the race but is only 3km ahead of Kristof. This is tense - it's basically going to come down to who can not sleep till Sidney.
-
• #434
Kristof has retaken the lead, if the trackers are alright. I think he's got this race - 1000km to go on no more sleep seems expectable. I did 700kmish on my final stint and I'm an ultra-endurance turd who wasn't racing anybody (aside from myself)

Mike Hall back in first place...
-
• #436
Showing mike in the lead again !
-
• #437
Mike now nearly 20 kms ahead. Epic stuff!
-
• #438
Mike will need to sleep though no? And Kristoff again will slip on to the lead
-
• #439
When did mike last sleep and for how long?
-
• #440
For all the people coming through or close to Adelaide still, the weather just turned filthy. Rain and gusty winds, mid 16 deg or so.
-
• #441
About 40 hours since Mike had that longer stop, 5 hours, and then he's had a couple of stops just over an hour around the same time Kristof was sleeping.

So was Kristoff just exhausted and needed to rest or was it tactical? Seems a funny place to choose to sleep when there might of been more comfortable options not far away.
-
• #443
Probebrly ducked and just had to stop.
-
• #444
Also RACING!!! So excite.

• #445
This is brexit. The UK leaving the EU..
-
• #446
Nice one, and appropriate timing as well
-
• #447
look at the tracker, mike and kristof just battling it out..
-
• #448
It's so hard to tell with the delays in the GPS, but 'predicted mode' had them right on top of each other a minute ago. Surely they are riding in sight of one another.
Who's going to blink first??
-
• #449
Only if they're cheating and ignoring the rules.

Morals. Personal integrity. The rules.
Black ops Belg. What if the trackers broken?
