You can use a hose with syringe attached (IIRC) but be careful as mine fell off and pissed fluid everywhere.
It's a weird design choice and was my first experience of setting up/bleeding hydro brakes.
Helped my mate build his SRAM Rival disc bike more recently and that's got sensible screw on hoses and syringes which are a lot neater and less prone to popping off for no reason.
It should be noted that I'm a rank amateur, so maybe proper mechanics don't have the same idiot problems that I do.
Top one is a bleed nipple that a tube goes over, bottom one is threaded like at the lever end and better.
