The problem was fitting the fork inside the jaws, a smaller vise would have made things easier. As it was I couldn't use anything as big as a crank (for instance) to make the dimple. And if this doesn't work well I'll most likely shell out for a custom fork by orlowski. Did see the surly ones but thanks. Hopefully won't need a new fork now!

Ryan, at Oak Cycles use an old Campagnolo crank arm to create the dimple.
