Things I still need (more for my own benefit than anyone elses)
Silca Frame Pump
DA9000 brakeset + lifeline carbon pads
A new set of GP4KIIS 25s and long valve latex inner tubes.
Tilquist Garmin mountAnd we're done!
In the future, an Enve fork, some 404s and maybe a CK headset would be nice, but I'm in no rush and they're not going to improve the ride that drastically.
Now, can someone talk me out of buying this, stripping it for the frame and putting Hydro Force, some Hunt tubeless wheels and mudguards on it? https://www.evanscycles.com/genesis-equilibrium-disc-931-2016-road-bike-ex-demo-ex-display-EV301964

Gah! I have this stack problem with mine. How do you shave off like 4mm without melting your entire bike?
ps. you should just get my frameset, you already have one of those Equilibrium thingos.

HOT
u get 40% on silca from sigma?

Latex tubes + carbon clinchers is a bad move from what I've heard.

I think it's more the descending you should be concerned about?
Dura Ace that did it definitely would be worth it. Good luck.

What goes up must come down.
-
• #335
think there's clearance on this frame for 27s?
-
• #336
@MechaMorgan what's your opinion of the frame having had it for a few months now? How does it compare to your CAAD(?) you were riding previous?

It fucking bangs.
I was very very sceptical about the whole #steelisreal brigade, but having ridden top level modern steel for a bit now, they're completely right. Insanely comfortable, really rewarding of a bit of grunt. The weight penalty isn't worth considering. Absolutely blissful ride quality.
did 1000km and 26,000m of climbing in 5 days in Spain and it didn't put a foot wrong. Was incredibly comfortable and climbs really well. Managed to hammer a couple of top 10s and a KOM in up 12% climbs.
eTap is fucking amazing. It's really sensitive to set up, and likes a ludicrously tight chain, but when it works it is absolutely faultless. Shifts quickly, silently and even under full-grunt load.
It just about fits 28s. Thats on 25mm wheels though, and still rubs a little at times but it's so fucking comfortable that it's worth it. I might get some 9100 calipers to give me a bit more space. Will probably buy some 26s when I wear out these S Works turbos, just for fit.
Generally, best bike I've ever ridden, and I've ridden a lot of good bikes.
N.B. last bike was a Cannondale Supersix.

Winning.

Edit-just saw the owners reply, lovely build interesting to hear that steel is still on par at that level
-

Is that a limitation of the F+F or calipers? Had plenty of room in my 853 with 28s on 25mm rims.
-
• #341
both really - the brake bridge gets a bit of rub but the top of the caliper is close too. Only on the rear, front is fine. Probably too close in the back if I'm honestly, but I can live with it.

mainly I just want shiny new brakes

It looks great too. I don't often get jelly of forum bikes (not enough of a buyer) but this really does it for me. Really nice frame, build and I'd love eTap (and 953!).
Shame it doesn't have a tiny bit more clearance but you can't have everything...

• #345
Yes you should upgrade. Dibs on your Red brifters and rear derailleur.

I've got 953 frame aswell. The tubeset appears to be holding the leader position for a long time now in terms of strongest and lightest steel. Think for 15 years now?
When do you think a product from either columbus or reynolds will supersede it? Or even a product from the east.
On side note I've heard the columbus spirit is lighter them 953? Is this true... but it's not stainless so..... mehh -

Maybe never. Doubt there's much R&D now that Carbon is the dominant frame material.

The metals are adapted from other industries such as nuclear. Reynolds gets plane tubing from American supplier and then manipulate them into butted tubing for frames.
So hopefully there still is more development to come.
As for carbon, graphene appears to be the new frontier. -

thanks.... I have one myself, running 25s on it just now. can testify to the quality of the ride too, love mine. tempted to upgrade it to eTap now.... hmmmmmmm
Got my Superleggero fitted. It's 115g at 110mm, very slim and low stack though! I'll need to shave some extra off the steerer.
Just went and hammered out a Blue Egg loop. Position is perfect, and it really want to go fast.
