  • It seems like I can either get the top or bottom half of the cassette working nicely but not together.

Typical symptom of a bent gear hanger.

  • Ah well. That's my (half-educated) knowledge exhausted... Good luck!

  • Valve extenders and clinchers.

I've got a Vittoria latex tube and a Vittoria valve extender (and a HED one), but they don't fit: I think the threads are a different pitch.

The valve extender instructions show that the entire valve tube is removed and replaced with the extender, which isn't possible with the Vittoria tubes.

What do I need? Different tubes or different extenders?

  • Different extender. The red Vittoria ones are indeed for the old style of Vittoria tub where the entire valve could be unscrewed. I've always got on well with Conti valve extenders.

  • Fucksocks and thanks!

Odd that HED include the same type of extender with a brand new clincher.

  • The gear hanger suffered damage after I first built it up but I bought a tool to straighten it. Last time I checked, it was bang on, maybe i'll have another look.

  • Typical symptom of a bent gear hanger.

Also typical of a mech which is being pushed far beyond its design range :)

  • I am just going to swap the clamp that takes a standard M6 bolt

M5 is more common for clamps with pivoting nuts as M6 takes up too much space, some of the weight weenie clamps use M4 which is certainly strong enough in a 12.9 grade as long as the nut is of equal quality.

ebay is full of purple ones of the right general design, from under £2

  • I know what you're saying, thing is they sound like they're having no trouble over on STW running all kinds of stuff with a 11-42.

  • Anyone on here use Rhino?

I've always used it for drawing up my 2D vectors for cutting my vinyl masks for paint, as I hate Illustrator. Now I've set up shop on my own though, I no longer have access to my old corporate copy. I've been using the 90 day trial, but obviously you cant save anything after 90 days... Just wandering if anyone knows if its possible to export 2d vectors (pdf/eps format) once the 90 days is up? Would save me the £1k license fee if so.....

I'm doubtful it will be possible, but one can only hope...

  • is anyone using A-Z Street map app for iOS (central London) ?

Hard to fault Google's mapping, unless you have privacy concerns. The A-Z app looks pretty clunky in comparison, though I do have a soft-spot for their paper maps.

  • Nice idea! Thanks.

  • Shimano HT2 bottom brackets: do I need to care whether I get a road or a mtb one?

  • Seems doubtful, but maybe you could draw in Rhino and copy & paste into Illustrator to save as PDF?

  • The middle tubes aren't the same length, but I can't remember whether the cups are the same width.

  • MTB come with spacer for 73mm shell.

From inspection at work, they appear to be identical.

  • middle tubes

My thoughts exactly as I bought a hope bb once with a dust sleeve for 73mm shells. Couldn't understand why the nds bearing popped out when tightening the cups at first :)

    appear identical

Ok great. Thanks, just what I needed to know!

  • Controversial perhaps but a quick solution until you find an alternative/make enough money to cough up for a license.

  • Is it really bad to ride without the little outboard circlip on my Ultra Torque cranks? Or does it not really matter in normal use?

  • The circlip is a safety device: if the joining screw comes undone, your cranks won't fall out.

So not essential in normal use.

  • yeah, would be surprised if it lets you export, but I just says no saving, but everything else works in all the info I can scrounge from the web.

  • I did look for a torrent, but couldn't find anything with a keygen that actually worked! I was only looking to torrent to see how it functioned with my Roland GS-24, as I read some people have had issues... but then saw the trial version has changed to a 90 day full usability thing, instead of the really shit restricted usability one it used to be.

I have the dough for the license, and I'd rather have an official copy in the long run, but was just wandering if theres any point actually paying for the full license if I can just do what I need to with the trial license. It's a way overspeccd bit of software for just drawing 2D vectors, but I can do stuff so much quicker on Rhino, and illustrator just annoys the hell out of me.

Time is money, if you know this program works for you then I'd be tempted to stick with it. And if the trial licence is all you need, so much the better.

If only there was a licensing model which allowed start-ups to get fully functional CAD software at a price which reflected their ability to pay...
