Shooting to stop has the unfortunate effect of being fatal sometimes.
-
• #44582
Also, don't police forces generally use hollow point bullets (so the bullet doesn't pass through and take out a civilian or two) which are a fair bit more likely to result in a fatal shot?

He choose New York, because New York State does not carry the death penalty for murder. To be fair Baltimore, Maryland also abolished death penalty in 2013 (wiki source).
I hope he receives a guilty verdict for murder and serves a long prison sentence in Rikers Island Penitentiary, with daily battering from hard convicts.

Yes but that is the tool the police are given.

Not sure, probably depends on force and deployment.

Not meant as a negative in any way.
Just another mark against the idea that an officer being charged at by a knife wielding person should be able to simply incapacitate the attacker non-lethally.
While the pros and cons of the bullets can be debated at length, it's understandable why they are chosen for that purpose.

so, what? because the cycle lane was painted and not a physical kerb/barrier the driver was able to kill people? He is aware that paths traditionally have kerbs, no? does he want railings everywhere?
-
• #44593
I've also heard a counter argument, that the fact that it's a paint only lane made it easy for cars to pull up onto it to let emergency vehicles through. In other areas, where the bike lane is protected by a high curb, ambulances got stuck in the traffic chaos.
So, swings and roundabouts, eh? -
• #44594
@Bad_Science thats a damned solid counter argument right there.

wtf indeed.

Is it wtf?
She could have easily claimed unreasonable behaviour, where the bar is, as I understand, pretty low.
Instead, she appears to have claimed unhappiness.
Which may well be the case, but isn't grounds for divorce.
I'm guessing there's more to it than reported.
-
• #44598
Grounds for divorce are pretty clear.
Marriage counselling first imho -
• #44599
Unhappiness should be grounds for divorce though. Couldn't she just change her wording to "unreconcilable differences" and be on her merry way?
-

The behaviour she claimed was unreasonable wasn't unreasonable enough, in the court's view.
Opposing a family court ruling made last year by Judge Robin Tolson, who refused to grant a divorce petition on the basis her allegations were "of the kind to be expected in marriage", she took the case to the Court of Appeal.
