If you have to think that, then you must be a bit of a plonker.

Posting my Bolt because I rode it this morning and it's just so much fun.
I have a hankering to put a zero degree stem on it and some compact drops with S500 levers but, to be honest, even on 80+ mile rides I still find it comfortable.

Risers on long rides are the best

you ride 80 miles on risers with MTB pedals? weirdo!

Feel free, always happy to see it.
But yeah with Borek here, 80miles on MTB pedals sounds like hotspot hell.

Sound like you had shit shoes TBH.

ive done a brevet and 170km gravel ride on mtb shoes & pedals. You just need proper insoles.
-
• #3810
I think the stiffness of the shoes itself is the important difference TBH.
-
• #3811
I mean this is true, but road shoes are generally stiffer, so there's my point.
Crabon sole ftw

Not really, some MTB shoes are basically road shoes that have extra rubber bit and 2 bolts;
-
• #3813
well my mtb shoes are just tad-basic nylon-outsole cheap fiziks which flex like shit and I have no idea what a hotspot is supposed to feel like.
-
• #3814
Never had any hotspots with my Sidi Dominators and that's with the standard insole!
Risers are fine for long rides, plenty of different positions to change between if they're not too narrow.
You get looks of astonishment from roadies up here as well which is always funny.

What I'm trying to say is that generally not explicitly, most MTB shoes are softer because they are designed to enable comfortable walking / hiking. However, you are right that some MTB (race / enduro) shoes are very stiff.
There are also cheap / low quality road shoes that are as soft as a wet turd. -

That would actually be much more accurate, sorry I guess what i was being pedant about MTB shoes in general, had been doing all sort of ride with MTB shoes (Sidi Dominator), and never had any issues with hotspot let alone concern about flex.

I wouldn't make a habit of riding 80 miles on a track bike in mtb shoes, but am probably just a wimp.

• #3818
does #bristolndon mean nothing to you anymore?
-
• #3819
I think i actually prefer it, i find it more comfortable and wide risers help loads on the climbs

I never said i wouldn't do it, just that I wouldn't make a habit of it!

Slotted in the matching wheel in today with its 18t sprocket for some hill repeats. I really can't recommend this frameset enough.

A colleague order one at work, odd the XL and L have almost identical reach, which is great (XL = more headtube).
It look really good, defintely thinking of going for that as a fixed road bike.

48/18?

It looks good, but the ride is superb. Planted and comfortable, yet surprisingly spritely. As a fixed road bike it's just about perfect, for me at least.
New vig is looking great. Nice work @yetidamo Good chance I'll go for one if I can't get my old steel thing mended.
