• It's fucking absurd. I too am old, passed the week before the theory test was introduced, and I was soon towing a massive enclosed car trailer behind a massive van through London with zero experience or knowledge. Looking back it was proper dangerous.

  • No such license type here and the frigging trailers are RIDICULOUS. I've towed 10,000lbs of machine tools on a double axle trailer behind a 1970 Ford Pickup with (marginal) drum brakes. The trailer brakes were about the only thing slowing us down. I've never squinted so far in the distance to watch the traffic lights, it was like stopping a supertanker.

  • Similar here. Within 18 months of passing my test I was driving a 7.5 tonne truck through Central London, when the largest thing I'd driven before was a 1.6 Austin Maestro. Ah, the confidence of youth.

  • I still have a paper licence :)
    passed 81 ;)
