  • my screen ruler is pointing to that be M8×1.0

You are absolutely right. Its an M8 thread with M6 head .. ballache. Not a huge fan of Hope either, I just chose it for vanity purpose. I am just going to swap the clamp that takes a standard M6 bolt. Know any? Purple would be nice ;)

  • Heat gun or hair dryer. Should be fine as you won't be worried about damaging the paint.

  • On my old freeview I deleted the ITV channels. My ex couldn't understand why. I couldn't understand why you wouldn't.

  • Might be easier to cut and polish the paint off the badge after painting.

  • And if I want to put it back on afterwards? Glue stick?

  • It's a bit too complex and need paint behind it.

I'm thinking about masking off around it to keep a bit of the original paint as a panel with the badge on.

  • Anyone on here a jewellery designer/maker? I need a thin and narrow (2mm ish) platinum band with a groove running around it for my upcoming wedding.

  • I'm not but Mrs Hammer and I got our wedding rings here: https://www.londonrocksjewellery.co.uk/
They were nice, price was decent and they'll make what you want.

  • inner tubes for 32mm tires with nonremovable valve cores - suggestions?

  • Think @dicki knows someone.

  • What's a typical day-rate for a expert IT Consultant?

  • That depends on how scarce their expertise is, the depth of their expertise and the sector they work in. Day rates usually range from between £400-£650 a day but can be higher if you work in sectors known for high value, i.e. wealth management, trading, legal etc.

  • Extremely niche knowledge (DMARC deployment) on a critical (but unappreciated) system, namely email.

  • Strip a strand of wire out of a brake cable and use a sawing action with the wire behind the badge pulling the ends of the wire down and back towards the back of the bike whilst sawing. Basically cheesewiring (not a word) the badge off. Hot glue probably will work but Evo-Stik may also work well.

  • Hartley Cycles! Pop her an email. Did a lovely job with my wife's. Talbot did mine, but I don't think he enjoyed the experience.

  • I'm running a SunRace 11-42 cassette, Shimano XT M772 9 speed mech and dura-ace 10 speed bar end shifters and the shifting is crap. I'm pretty much riding a bike with 6 gears.

I'm sure I read that the 9 speed mech would be compatible with the cassette so I reckon the shifter is the problem. Would I be right to think I could just get some shimano/sram brifters and that would be that? And if so are there any in particular I should be looking for? They'll be for a 1x10 gravel bike. Ta.

  • Great, thanks! Weirdly I've seen that IG post before, and I don't follow either of you. We also have suspiciously similar wedding suits...

  • Thanks, sent them an enquiry

  • Run the bar end shifters as friction shifters?

I think that's a shadow rd, meaning it will not necessarily be compatible with the road pull ratios. So your brifters suggestion might not work either.

  • Specialized tubes have fixed cores and can be got from Evans all over the place.

  • @SteadyCam
I wouldn't suggest trying to friction shift 10spd cassettes, it's tricky enough with 8! RD-M772 uses the standard road pull ratio so should work fine but it may be struggling to reach up to a 42T sprocket (the shimano docs say it'll do a low sprocket of 32T-36T). While those are conservative numbers you're a way over the spec, ~1" extra on the diameter. Have a tweak with the B-screw to see if you can improve the situation.

As an alternative, you haven't got a unidirectional shimano chain on the wrong way round have you?

  • is anyone using A-Z Street map app for iOS (central London) ?
Need to know what are the pros/cons comparing with Google Maps

  • I tried the friction shifter route but couldn't get it to work or find much online. Think the rear mech is not shadow but would replace if it fixed the problem. Thanks for your input.

  • Its basically operating as a janky, lucky dip friction shift now so if it were possible, i'd consider that route.

There's surprisingly no issue with the mech getting into the 42t sprocket. It seems like I can either get the top or bottom half of the cassette working nicely but not together. I'll have a look at the b-screw. I've never heard of a unidirectional chain but I'll also have a look at that. Cheers.
