Don't know about Spain, but I always thought Italy ranked below India and the Philippines in terms of "countries you can trust buying watches from".

If it's an inexpensive watch then it might be worth a punt. For anything in Europe thats pricey I figure you may as well fly there to check it out in person.

I like dials to be functional and I dislike watches being tributes to things that aren't watches.

Having extra numbers and a dial made to look like a piece of old motorbike ticks that box.

Porsche or Ferrari watch anybody? I thought not.

Hah, when I was at Uni I had a Swatch that was designed with Porsche, I really liked it - was basically a Swatch with a rubber strap. I'd buy it again if I could find it.

Was it designed to look like part of the Porsche?

It was a chrono with a rubber strap, silver from memory. It didn't look like a car. I think the dial was meant to bear similarities with the dials in the car, and the strap had an interesting texture which I imagine could have been considered tyre-like, but certainly wasn't a tyre tread pattern.

Likely cost of getting a crown fixed on an inexpensive but liked (by me) Seiko. Screw thread seems not to be engaging so it pops out and in with little provocation.

Depends on if its the crown or the pendant tube that is stripped. Crown replacement is simple.

Think it's more likely to be the tube, or where it engages with the movement.

Some googling suggests crown, stem and indeed movement could be had for not much more than 20 quid (parts) however I suspect that i may be unlikely to find anyone who will do it for less than about 60.

I will try and get a quote, but given the watch was only about 120 it might be new watch time (or to give fixing it a go myself).

Perhaps something automatic/solar powered/a bit more expensive which will either last longer (this one has only made about 5 years) or to make fixing/servicing a more attractive proposition. Disposable culture sucks.

Buy the crown and see if you can fit that yourself. The pendant tube is a more involved job.
