Google 'kick off a web design project'
Designers thread probably for better answers, but usually
- background and context to the project
- project management approach - key dates / times and how you expect the project to work
- who's gonna use it (the audience)
- what the site has to achieve
- core functionality you expect
- sites that are similar that you / client think represent good
-- if you use Google or Facebook here your designer can and should cock-punch you - brand guidelines and design direction
- technical standards they must meet
- other constraints they must meet
- background and context to the project
