That looks remarkably bad
-
• #9828
it wasn't that bad, but not too far off. the error lay more in the wierd angle of approach, mid jump worry and landing overcorrection. an amusing 'boinggg' sound would have been appropriate for the resounding rebound

That's ripe for a shooting stars meme.

Got abused by posh dog walkers whilst riding the gnarlier paths (not that there are any ) in Richmond Park. What are the rulz? Saw no ships.

You were in the wrong in afraid. Gotta stay on the main trail round the outside. £50 fine if da popo spot you anywhere else. I got busted once when riding with my 10 year old nephew. They let us off the fine but he still talks about as his brush with the law...

Shame, I'll have to revert to silly o clock then, allegedly

Has anyone here ridden Fort William? I'll be in the area in early April and thought it would be rude not to have a go at the downhill courses.
However they tell me their mountain bike season is from May to September. The "Witch’s trail" cross country routes will be open when I'm there - does anyone know if these are any good?
I might just have to go back later in the year for full-on gnarly DH fun.

I haven't been there for over a decade, but remember the Witch's Trail as being good fun, with some properly technical little sections in there.
Well worth doing.

How do you put more air in a Rock Shock Pike?
Should you?
Also, what's the teeny allen key that pulls out of the bottom of one leg all about?
Road bieks are not this complicated.

How do you put more air in a Rock Shock Pike?
Shock-pump meets valve on the top of the NDS fork leg. Unscrew the cap to get access to it.
Should you?
If you are getting too much sag, bottom outs and general sluggishness that can't be fixed by tuning the rebound, yes. Follow the instructions to set the sag with the O-ring on the DS leg.
Also, what's the teeny allen key that pulls out of the bottom of one leg all about?
When you turn the allen key it sets high speed rebound rate - turn towards the hare and it rebounds quicker, towards the tortoise and it rebounds slower...I think the allen key is used to take one of the dials off for maintenance, but I can't remember which.
Suspension is cray complicated - but it's a revelation when its running sweet.
Also: Pikes are rad. But heavy. But rad.
The two dials on the top of the DS leg are useful...the little one sets high speed compression when the fork is in 'Descend'... but you might just have one which means you just get pre-set descend, trail and climb settings.

Very good, would do again

• #9840
Thanks dude.
I don't have the biek in front of me but from memory the top of the NDS leg has a travel / height adjustment dial, but no obvs valve and the DS has a big lockout knob with a little dinky aluminium one on top, is that high speed compression?
Heavy doesn't really describe the bike, I can barely lift the bugger. Goes well down hill but ain't half hard going up.

Hang on a sec - are you sure you don't have the old Coil pike?
Easy way to tell - is the steerer tapered?

Danimal, depending on weather the gondola service opens mid to late May.
This is a nice time to go as fairly low midge count.
You can get single trip tickets or all day multipass for uplift, singles are not cheap. The red run is fairly mild, starts off with around 1km of boardwalk which can be tricky if very windy, this red track intersects with the direct line just below the big world cup wall ride, you can pootle down the fireroad or chop onto the WC track.
The WC track is not overly technical, big jumps can be ridden around, some of the lines/jumps are WC only.
The track has an easy start, going to rock gardens. It will give any full suspension bike a good work out or snap it.
It can be done on hardtail, and has been done on rigid, you need to be nuts for that.Unsure whats happening down the road at Glencoe Ski center, but they have an open bench chairlift and did have a couple of tracks. The Glencoe Black run is shorter than the Forts but more technical.
Cracking day out, most people struggle after 5 WC track runs as the relentless battering takes it toll.

It's certainly oldish. I don't think the steerer is tapered.
If it is coil sprung that would explain the lack of somewhere to squirt air into...
It would also explain how it has height adjustment.
Hang on, I'll google it.

Howard........and he rinsed a large portion of the racers and knocked out 15 laps in under 6 hours.
He did hurt a bit at the end :) DH enduro is back for this year, best race ever :)

Yeah. I think it's a 2005-6 ish Pike Race Coil U-turn.
Is that good?
-
• #9847
Yeah I'd love to try the WC track but it isn't open until May, I'm there in early April, so I may have to go back some other time.
I'll think about having a go on the XC courses, will have to look into renting a bike as I don't think it's worth taking mine all that way just for one day of riding.

This cropped on STW a few months back on an article.
Rigid raiding.
I never got a good action shot of Jesse as i was busy trying to race him. I did get a load of static shots of his bike in the shop pre-race.
Old 2004'ish Spesh P3 with rigid steel fork as his manitou fork gave up the day before, he had 8" brakes f/rThe photo is part of the track called the off beat wall, usually loads of crashes here as it's very fast and if you get air off the crest you have a massive free-fall.

Yeah coil pikes are rad - as long as they aren't fucked :)
Not sure how to set the pre-load on the coil tho - might need a new spring or tokens. @umop3pisdn had some, he might know.
