  • Cheers that's what Martin suggested too. Any old grease should do, yeah?

    New tyres??

My bars are a bit off. The whole front end needs to come down a notch. Not a fan of that ritchey stem either. There's a 90mm superleggio on eBay....@MechaMorgan have you tried yours out yet?? Should I get it?

  • Just noted your top cable now runs along the top tube and not under it.

  • Huh. Weird - that's where the cable guides are....

  • My run

  • Wiggle's Lifeline ones are good and cheap

  • What are best value brake pads? I like cheap but effective

  • Buy cheap buy twice just get swiss stop green and be done . 20 quid for 4 if you shop around . That pic of mine are gatorskin 25s on pacenti sl23 and their is loads of space.

  • nice bike .. flipped stem and large bidon makes me sad :'(

  • @amey Yeah that bidon makes my bike look teensier than it is already.

    But why you sad?

    New stem incoming.

  • 2x small bidons vs 1x big .. instagram rules

  • i know, i know. i'm not cool enough for insta tho.

  • @pacef8 - ordered swisstops, the used ones the callipers came with are worn to the bone. I've never taken a freehub off, what kind of grease do I need? Do I have to go all out and remove bearings like this? This video made me scared.

@ everyone - Do I get on the radavist if I put some streamers and paul brakes on this? jk jk I'm not in it for the fame.

Now that this is almost done can't wait for next bike project (especially now that spring is sprunging) - it's gonna be a doozy. 90s peugot frame restoration and respray (in the shed) with glitter spray.bike can DIY powdercoat.

(aka my beater town bike that I love to bits needs some emergency TLC)

But first I really gotta get my bars/brifters sorted on this ritchey. ride #2 tomorrow morning.

  • It's been a while since I've worked on a hope hub......

The end cap should just pull off, you may need to use pliers/mole-grips for more purchase, in which case wrap a rag around the end cap to protect it cos it's soft alloy and damages easily.

No bearing removal required, just pull the freehub body off. Make sure you keep an eye on the pawls (try not to lose them!) Give it a good clean. Doesn't make any odds w/regards to the grease. But if you want to make it quieter, then the thicker the better really. Only issue is, if it's too thick or you use too much then the pawls won't engage properly.

Use an old shoe lace or a ribbon or something to hold all the pawls back in place when you want to put the freehub back on, as it's a bit tricky. Some people use the freehub seal, but I find that less effective.

The freehub will run quieter for a while, but will end up noisy again at some point in the future.

    Good luck.

  • Once you have pulled the cassette off after the little stopper greased it and popped it back on making sure the o ring is sealed you will wonder what the fuss was about .

  • They moved the cable stops on the later production 49cm & 53cm frames to run along the top of the top tube as it gives a better routing for the rear brake cable.

  • All of these nice builds on here lately are really making me want a steel road bike although I don't need one!

This is lovely btw, I actually dig the white saddle n bar tape! Just keep em clean

  • It also improves carrying it around I find.

As soon as I get more £££ I'm getting you to do your magic on this. While the grey is classic it's just a bit too boring and man-racer. I want my bikes to be speed monsters with feminine ideals.

  • Cheers thanks! This might have to be a weekend project.

  • I'm digging the white. It's like day 3 and the bartape is already a bit mucky tho :(

Needs pink bidons (feminine ideals). I have to dig those out...

Ps. 'need' is a flexible term :)
