I have one but don't think i would call it a gravel/adventure bike, it only fit 35mm tyres, isn't any better with 650b wheels. I prefer my pickenflick/niner rlt for offroad stuff, it does ride nice on road though...

Looks good - I think it would be fine for what I want. 32c tyres would do for me. Does it take normal 'guards or some kind of bespoke efforts?
Not looking for something to go proper off road - I can use my Cross Check for that. This would be more for wet weather and if I want to put a saddlebag on with overnight stuff.
My other road bike is a Lynskey which is fine but has no clearance for mudguards.

Is a Genesis Datum a gravel bike or not really; more of a road bike with slightly bigger tyre clearance?
I'm considering some changes in the stable, and think the Datum might be in with a shout.
