Damn missed your reply. Yeah hotels can be a pain as to accept "foreigners" they need to be registered with the govt. every time you check in they will record visa and passport. As for camping? Especially in the west it should be ok but more than likely people will be glad to lend a hand or a place with sheer novelty of your quest.
Many cheap hotels around. So wouldn't be a problem, if they accept foreigners that is. Cheapest I know that's foreign friendly is about 25 pounds a night.

Read about other cycle tourists making up complete schedules including routes, sightseeing points and reservations for hotels in order to get a visa. All fake and immediately thrown out of the window after receiving the papers of course...
