This all sounds and looks fantastic. I've recently been reading the cyclingthe6 blog (Stephen Fabes). It's amazing and he goes into great detail about kit, routes, camping etc. You may have already come across it, but if not I recommend giving it a read.

Damn missed your reply. Yeah hotels can be a pain as to accept "foreigners" they need to be registered with the govt. every time you check in they will record visa and passport. As for camping? Especially in the west it should be ok but more than likely people will be glad to lend a hand or a place with sheer novelty of your quest.
Many cheap hotels around. So wouldn't be a problem, if they accept foreigners that is. Cheapest I know that's foreign friendly is about 25 pounds a night.
Can certainly put you in touch with some guys over here that may be more "in the know" about it. Tyler or Jeff from factory 5 or some of the other tcr guys here

Thanks for the recommendation.
That's todays reading sorted out! -

Nice. It's rare to find a cycleblogger who is actually a decent writer!

No worries, I'm still here :) Thx for the info
Read about other cycle tourists making up complete schedules including routes, sightseeing points and reservations for hotels in order to get a visa. All fake and immediately thrown out of the window after receiving the papers of course...

Yeah i agree, very good. Hopefully it will be of some use to you.

MSR Hubba are fucking awesome.
It packed a lots smaller once you removed the tent poles, and just strap that to the top tube.

Ditto.

Small camping trip, unfortunately found out all campings are still closed until the season starts, so lugged around camping gear to end up sleeping in a B&B... Good thing it was a great day for cycling

• #187
That's some seriously tidy luggage

Nice setup, loads of room. I have a similar one, but saddle bag rather than rear rack.
You can compress your hubba in a dry bag, I got our hubba hubba (2 people tent) into a 4L alpkit easily, poles on the side.

Good idea, I don't think the MSR bag is rainproof.
'real deal' setup will include more luggage

Sweet thread and a great setup! I have a Supernova E3 Pro 2 in blue for sale that'd go real nice with this ;)

...epic thread! well envious of your plans. thinking of quitting my job for a while and doing something similar.
i'm stuck in turkey because of work, for probably the rest of the year and i'd happily host you if you come by. (i'm living quite literally on your route). I also have friends/family in Istanbul, let me know.
Bike looks sick btw, was looking into the Surly World Troller with S&S couplers the other day, which would be the perfect touring machine for having to take flights if plans change or things don't work out.

• #192
Are you gonna add back rollers?
-
• #193
Is that the medium or large alpkit stem bag?
-
• #194
Looks like the large I have one too, its a bit floppy in my experience unless fully stuffed.
