  • Yep, excellently organised and marshalled as always. Thanks!

  • I wouldn't call the last 5 miles flat. Not exactly downhill either, but the road does fall once you pass under the A14.

  • Point taken. It's not a course that I have ever rode and nor am I likely to. I just stand on a roundabout or at a layby and point.

  • Totally fucked it up. I've only ridden the course once before, and that was two years ago, so when I arrived at the HQ and found there was a plan showing the course on the wall I studied it most diligently. It showed one RAB north of Newton (straight over), and then three RABs at the top of the course - go left at the first one, straight over the second, turn at the third. That's exactly what I did. Unfortunately it turns out there were a few more roundabouts not shown in the plan, so I turned before the turn, so to speak, and did a 20.8 mile TT. Hence a DNF.

It was a pity as despite a stinky head cold, I was actually going rather well, and did the 20.8 miles at a whisker under 40kph, despite sitting up at the end. I reckon I would've finished at about an hour if I'd ridden the whole course.

All in all, not a good weekend - I fucked up the TT, and @Cycliste crashed her BMC road bike on Saturday. Such is life.

  • That's the E1? Yes, I can imagine being confused by the small roundabouts on the way up to Stump's X and then Sawston. See you in September for our next TT on that course...
I ll mention your mistake to the organiser.

  • It looks like bont shoes will be available again soon as they are showing as soon to be in stock at sigma and trees but why are they so expensive! Zeros are £325 and the chronos are £415!!

  • I think bonts are crap.

  • ive had a pair of vaypors for the last 2 years that fit my tudor style square feet...

  • Yeah, I'm just fussy.

I had quality issues with the few pairs I had.

  • I never got on with how high the arches are in Bonts. The heat moulding never seemed to make any noticeable difference to me either.

  • I had to bake mine way hotter and longer than recommended to mould my Vaypor S. Eventually got enough pliability to push out the sides.

    Those Cronos look ridiculous.

  • Any tips for riding E2/10? First time tomorrow.

  • Use street view to memorise where the turn is (5 miles in), that's about it.
There is an annoying drag just after the turn so I try to recover slightly on the roundabout and get as much speed off the slip road as I can.

  • First race of the year Sunday, a 14mi SPOCO in the New Forest. Can't wait!

  • Yes.

Make sure you push on the little risers, keep the speed up. It's worth going into the red a bit

Get up to speed quick ish.

Save a bit for the risers on the return. The last mile is flat though.

  • Awesome, thanks both. I've had a heavy training week so not really sure how the legs will go, but looking at the forecast it should be a decent tail on the way back..

  • Then smash the out. If there is a tailwind it'll be silly fast back.

Stop in a lay by on the way there and see what it feels like.

  • Last time I raced there it was headwind return. I'd already burnt my matches by then so wandered deep into the pain cave... and got eaten by a bear.

  • wot he sed

It was a crazy headwind when I rode it last September (or October, can't remember now). Had to push so hard to the turn I was within a whisker of blowing up. Absolutely flew back. Despite the wind I got a new PB.

  • Calling P3C owners!

    a) I'm having trouble with the seatpost slipping. With assembly paste and a torque wrench, it needs 6.5Nm whereas 4Nm is specified. And that's just on the turbo, no pedalling.

It's a brand new frame: does the post or tube need roughening-up?

    b) Using a TriRig Omega X with a no-hanger backplate. I have a Tektro steerer mounted hanger, but that needs a 10mm spacer under it to clear the nose on a 54cm frame.

What are you using? Does anyone know of hangers with more forward extension (the Tektro has 38mm)?

    TIA

  • does the post or tube need roughening-up?

Is it the original post or the UCI one with the adapter sleeve? My UCI one slipped, but the illegal one has been fine with carbon paste and 4Nm

  • What are you using?

    An OG Omega :)

Pushed somebody off this afternoon who had the same compatibility issue (Omega X + OG P2/P3) that you, Nutshell and @Sainsburys_Ed are suffering from. If there are enough others out there who want to tackle it seriously, it's probably fixable :)

  • Punctured before even left London, sealant kind of worked, but walked 2 mins to Hub Velo, they were champions but couldn't quite get it to seal and ran out of time for the train. Really gutted as fancied it today.

  • When I bought my p2 I was told that they had a reputation for slipping. I built it with carbon assembly paste and it it slipped badly for a month or so, but it hasn't slipped since. I'm not sure, but my guess is that the repeated slipping combined with the gritty paste caused some abrasion but not certain. I definitely never over torque the clamp though.
