  • as a 50 year old woman, he's not that fast if I can catch him on a fixie

Well done, but to make a completely unrelated point, Nicole Cooke at 50 will probably still be pretty quick. :)

  • How about not being a colossal bell end? Be a bit more intune with others?

Yes it is a pet hate of mine.

  • You also won the commuter race that is exchangable for a strava queen of the mountain.

  • But there is a cycle lane.....so must be safer

  • Yes. Especially the little side turnings with taxis and PHVs trying to edge their way out. Safe as houses.

Although I should note that although I used to really enjoy embankment the way it was before all this, I've recently started using the cycle path between blackfriars and Westminster and found it's pretty good. Most days it's a sea of green lights. I do find it unusual that there are a few deadly pinchpoints, and a couple of dangerous right turn bits for cyclists, but it's generally pretty quick.

  • I'm not entirely sure what you are responding to.

This forum could do with putting quotes in replies automatically.

  • If you click on the in reply bit it takes you to the post.

I was replying to your comment about the reaction of a stranger.

  • Another day, another morning watching East London Fixed riders jumping lights in and around Regent's Park. What larks.

  • Calling myself out here. Not a total disaster but I guess a bit silly.
So I joined the cycle superhighway at Oval from Brixton Road onto Oval. Waited at the lights and as I took off a bike rode ahead of me. Some guy ringing fixed black bike with a white helmet.
He appeared to be keeping the same pace as me so I sat about 4ish feet behind him.
We both turn left from Kennington Park Road onto Kennington road.
I checked my shoulder where the road narrows, before the Balfes workshop. Looked back around and the guy in front is slowing, so que silly emergency endo/stoppie and embarrassing tumble.
The guy was a kind enough to stop and make sure I was ok.

  • Undertaken in the door zone this morning, complete with bell ring and middle finger after I remonstrated at such uncouth behaviour.

"Learn how to ride a bike!" I lamely gasp as she rides off into the distance.

Really gotta work on my retorts.

  • collective responsibility klaxon breaks.

  • 1:11 "Always obey stop line at junctions" is helpfully illustrated with a shot of a give way marking at a junction

  • "You are representing cycling"

    Get. Fucked.

  • in the same way that British Cycling thinks they represent everyone on a bike.

    utter throbbers.

  • Not sure if this belongs here or not (perhaps, if bad meaning good)

I was filtering to the front of a massive line of cars in a single lane, I was in a cycle lane. As I approached the traffic lights there is a right turn into a supermarket but there is no space for two lanes so if somebody is in a car waiting to turn right everyone behind has to wait.

Shitty Mondeo man didn't want to wait to go straight on so was angled at 45% across the cycle lane with a bike half under the bumper and the cyclists calling him a cunt stood on the pavement (the motorists would have needed to mount the pavement to get round the car in front). Anyway, there was lots of shouting from both motorists and cyclists but it had started to die down. The cyclists retrieved his undamaged looking bike and was about to get on his way when the motorist decided now (when it was all over) is the moment to discuss it sensibility, in the street and gets out of his car and starts marching toward the cyclist.

The cyclists who is your jeans and old mountain bike type is about 6,6 and must have weight 20stone was more than happy to meet him half way, drops his bike and dance over to mondeo and clocks him with the most effective punch I've ever seen live, mondeo man is on his arse in the blink of an eye with a bloody noise. I have to admit I let out a little cheer.(my bad, as they say)

The cyclist gets on his way and mondeo man had driven off by the time I left.

    Saturday morning in Gosport!

  • This thread is about calling out bad cyclists, not badass cyclists.

  • with a bloody noise

Wait, that's not how it is in a Gosport accent, is it?

  • To the arsehole in the yellow jersey who kept pushing forward to undertake me at every pinch point on the Angel cycle bypass this morning: fuck you. If I had chosen to keep my line and stay on the right side of the bollards we would have both gone over. I don't know what you think you had to prove, but it was too early for that shit. I hope you're not someone's boss.

  • There are still Mondeos in existence?!

  • Me - crashed into another cyclist this morning.

Purely a result of my own idiocy and complacency- cycling back from the local coffee shop with a coffee in one hand and loaf of bread under one arm, then a momentary loss of control which i could not recover due to only having one hand on the handlebars, and that hand not covering the brakes.

So I feel very mortified; fortunately she was fine and seemed a lot less bothered about it than I would have been if some bloody great fool had cycled into me.

To increase the level of embarrassment - she's my neighbour. Just took over a bottle of @Vince excellent champagne by way of apology.

Now I'm writing out 100 times "I must not drink coffee whilst cycling".

  • cycling back from the local coffee shop with a coffee in one hand and loaf of bread under one arm

    On trend. 9/10.

  • Now you point it out...

Ozone coffee, sourdough bread, Surly bike.

Anyone would think I'd just moved here from Stoke Newington.

  • Just took over a bottle of @Vince excellent champagne by way of apology.

Can I be your neighbour please?

  • Own up - you were taking an instagram selfie at the time.
