Was in pop Brixton during their faux Mardi Gras and spied a Japanese knife shop! This place http://www.kataba.co.uk
Had a nice selection in stock but I didn't get to speak to the man behind the counter as it's a bit of a tight fit and there were a couple of people having a discussion...
flyer says they do sharpening for a £1 an inch... -

For mid range pricing anything r2 powdered steal is recommended. Far better than vg10 and is stainless

Suggest a good single knife to give to my SO for her birthday? Should be relatively multi functional. She likes vegetables.
I know nothing about knives. Budget, circa. £50. -

Been having a bit of fun, Made the scales and brushed the Squeak, acid etched and stonewashed the outers of the Micra :)
No, I am not making them, or selling!!

Nice job on the Micra. How did you find the acid wash? (as in the experience, not where you sourced it).
-
• #1614
Fairly easy enough, done a few watches and two knives now.

Very snazz. Might have to 'pay homage' to your Leatherman when I find some time.
Some time and some acid.

Not sure how long the finish will last, it doesn't really matter, carried it for nearly 20yrs now. PITA to get the screws undone.....and had to cover in tape tp tighten them up. But worth it. Brushed all the clean steel too.

I was gonna say - not sure if you unscrewed them or treated them in something before their bath but thus answered. Very nice.

Na, it was totally stripped.
And thanks.
Tumbled in the tumbledryer, for 20 mins, with a hearty squirt of WD40, a handful of Horsham sandstone. In a tupperware box wrapped in a towel and taped up :)
The Mrs wasn't too happy, and now my sandwiches have a slight WD40 taste. -

Micras are great for the size. Proper scissors is a real plus.

I'm no longer impressed by the machete juggling at traffic lights here in Medellin.
Got a nice Sheffield clasp knife NOS from 2000 here:
