I might have weak google-fu or yours might actually be the only non-shop related and forum hit for the steel vig.
The info i have seen reguarding the fork brake hole is it's easy to unplug and it's been wax plugged with a hard bung over the front. The older Vigs needed drilling as the hole had been pinned and filled, some drilled, some managed to drift the pin out with a hammer blow.
Rumours we might have cycle-to-work attempt 2 at work (first one was blocked by head office) so a brakeless complete bike might do for my midlife crisis, and just bolt on my own brakes.
I will proberly ask more questions until i get see one in a shop someday :)
Cheers :)
