• The screw can get corroded if left alone during winter.

  • I did not know that.

  • I work with cars and it drives me insane when people don't refit valve caps, they serve a purpose so use them.

  • @edscoble @dazzrie

Maybe on cars but on bikes valve caps are basically useless. There's no way that a valve would corrode or rust within its useable life if you're pumping it up regularly. Regardless, tubes are ~2 quid, who gives a shit. My love of valve caps is purely aesthetic / compulsive

  • Weirdo

  • My love of valve caps is purely aesthetic / compulsive

Yea - I kinda have a thing for the yellow conti valve caps.

I like the way you've gone for a stem that follows the angle of the top tube, rather than a -17 that ends up looking droopy. Good stuff.

  • Yeah it's not so much them corroding or rusting, more about grit getting in a jamming valve. But that would be more of a issue on schrader rather than presta. But I'm just a wierdo and prefer to see a valve cap.

  • don't get me wrong, beautiful looking bike!

  • Oh nice! Back in business.
    Get one!

  • I always thought valve caps were to stop the rest of the tube getting damaged by the valve when they are still in their box?

  • And so you can see who are the suckers who think they need them on a bike.

  • Maybe on cars but on bikes valve caps are basically useless.

    I wouldn't says useless.

For certain application, I don't see any reason to leave them in, such as for track racing, serve no purpose especially since the bicycle end up being indoor in a dry environment.

However the majority of application most definitely benefit from a valve caps being in places, haven't wrestle with so much stuck valves on customer's bicycles due to even the slightest bit of negligence.

  • I am so glad this thread has descended in to bickering about valve caps.

    So glad.

  • sort that brake pad out, will ya?

  • I'm currently sporting one capped valve and one capless on my main bike. Sort of OCD therapy, or I just lost one of the caps.

    Oh, nice bike.

  • I have had several valves snap off whilst pumping from being corroded, super annoying when it happens, caps for ever in wet countries.

  • I will probably get some new pads when I buy some DA9000 brakes.

    Not a joke.

  • Found some Enve skewers to replace the stock ones. Open cam, but I've heard they're excellent.

Off to see @jammy for a fit tonight. I think it's fairly close, if a little upright, but what the fuck do I know.

  • if you buy new I think they come with carbon specific pads
I was wrong, dug out the PDF.
