Any philosophical reason why I can't switch the front fork on a bike to something that'll take a disc brake and leave the rim brake on the rear?

Boob milk is free - thank god! I've saved enough to become a full buyer.

Advice: working with a big client for the final month. They claim they've run out of money and have 8k left for a final project. We pitched our suggestions which were discarded. They suggested something shit and impractical. Costs for the project are at least 6k more like 7+k before you even factor in our in-house time which would be considerable - far more than 1k. Many days of work from multiple people. There is a vague chance we could come away with about 1k, maybe 2k if I underpaid everyone else. Client is increasingly micro managing to the detriment of project (complains about location, about cast etc and then back tracks saying it's fine by which time we've missed availability). For the stress involved in dealing with their nonsense is it worth it and should I just say 'good bye and good luck' and start looking for more business? I have zero confidence the project itself would be worth it for our reel. The only benefit is we could get a photo for Instagram featuring a lot of extras in a room. I've never turned down work before but these guys are driving me fucking nuts.

I think you know the answer.
I'd tell them what I could do for £8k whilst making sure everyone was paid properly - and they can take it or leave it. I'd also write some pretty exacting, punishing terms in the associated contract or statement of work - it sounds like they are disorganised and it's screwing you.
If they flounce you then get the fun job* of finding new business, and they get the horrible job of finding new suppliers.

But yes I largely agree. Just wish I hadn't spent 2 weeks on research already because good luck getting that back : )

Can I ask why you want them replacing? If they are loose in the frame it is possible in many cases to "pull" them up to retighten them.
You can get a tool for this or bodge one.

CYOA, unless you are significantly contributing to your valuation by gaining market share to do so in a way which costs you money (or equivalents of money such as time, resource etc) is insane.
Ask yourself why your company exists - is it to salve the ego of a bunch of micromanaging loons who make your life a misery?
If yes, do the project whilst losing money and infuriating your staff.
If no, do what Howard suggests.

Better start working on it then - good business dev. dictates the level of pain or joy felt further downstream.
Sorry :(

you've obviously read our "about us" :)

Thanks for this. I don't know much about them so assumed once it was loose it needed replacing. Also this is a pretty nice frame (very thin walled Ti) so don't want to do any bodges that might risk damage. But seems a lot more straightforward than I thought.

Sorry :(
Start with "you need us more than we need you", as the intro on the first phone call.

Next question: should I CC his minions and his boss for the lols?

Of course, and, most importantly, his investors.

I'd love to do some kind of Business Dev for people who hate Business Dev workshop type thing.

I would underpay you to attend and blame the client.

It would probably be more like a mutual support group anyway.

I have an old android phone I'd like to use as a GPS when cycling longer distances. I thought I'd load it up with data, can anyone recommend the best Sim card or deal to go with? Has anyone done this before?
-
• #82448
Why do you want to use data?.
With something like OSMAND, you can download the maps to your phone via wireless and then just use a gps signal for tracking.

An update: Basically said we couldn't do what they wanted for the budget they had in mind and offered to part ways without any further spend. I also suggested alternative options we could do on budget. He's declined those and said he'll just pay us for half the month and no need to produce anything. Literally free money.

If they're spinning freely it'll be a proper bugger to remove them. Much better just to retighten them. You can use the proper tool if you can find one, but an M5 bolt, M5 nut and an M5 penny washer will do the job just as well. Thread the nut onto the bolt a good way along it, then put the penny washer on, then screw the whole lot into the rivnut (if it's spinning you may have to use some needle nose pliers to hold it in place). Then, holding the bolt in position with a spanner, tighten up the nut towards the rivnut until it's nice and tight. This will re-crimp the rivnut and tighten it up. Remove bolt, et voila.
