Not sure if srs?
At the moment we're both running headlight technology that originated in the 50s. A headlamp bowl with reflector inside, and it has a hole for the halogen bulb.
The bowl is secured to the car via a metal ring which holds the bowl via friction and the ring secures to the car on adjustable mounts to allow you to angle the whole assembly correctly. The bulb itself "floats" and is secured by a metal spring clip and rubber sheath (lol) to the back of the bowl. The exposed section of the bulb is what the car's wiring loom attaches to and it is just 3 prongs, +ve -ve and Earth, like a normal home appliance plug.
These new LED headlamps replace not just the bulb but the whole bowl assembly, they are held into the car exactly the same as the original bowl, and the cable at the back replaces the 3 prongs on the back of the bulb. They are essentially plug & play, they only require further wiring if you want to wire in the turn signals and DRLs, which is probably another 30-45 mins work max for your home electrician.

Oh sorry I just watched that video and realised that I just spent a minute typing out what that video depicts.

OG points or being able to see at night?
When I was off-roading in Moab UT in a Rubicon Jeep with these headlights I was fucking glad I had them after our planned 2 hour warm-up turned into a 5 hour mission of digging the jeep put with our bare hands. There's no way I would have been able to jump the train tracks to avoid the quicksand that had an abandoned jeep up to it's windows if I didn't have those lights.

The tech has moved on, I recomend Hella H4 flat lens lights or the newer clear front lens lights. The increase of light from sealed beams is really good.
No idea about LED.

Er of course yes...

• #33139
Why oh y do I look at that photo and what jumps out at me is the wear on the inner front tyres. Tracking or camber.

They don't call it Long Canyon Rd for nothing.... :) I took a LWB Jeep down there, admittedly not in monsoon season..... :)

Got everything people claim to be is "new halogen technology" on the MX5, it's just guff compared to the retina searing lights on modern cars that light up half the Earth on low beam.
The BMW has the fancy pants factory HELLA projector units on it, but it had H7 halogen bulbs, which were dismal, so I upgraded using a cheapo HID kit. The only difference between what I've got and the official BMW xenon £2k optional upgrade is the headlamp washers.
The difference is like night and day, pun fully intended.
So I can, and have, faffed around with flat and clear lens H4 bowls with modern reflector pattern and £40 top of the line halogen bulbs, but all they netted me was about 20% more light. When you start with "fuck all light", 120% of that is still, "fuck all light".
Given that if you read back through this thread to when I bought that car, it seems to have spent more time waiting to be repaired, or being repaired, than I have spent driving it, you'd be forgiven to think it's a waste of time, but I do actually like driving at all times of the day and in all conditions. Being able to see the next corner before you arrive at the entry of it is a real boon, so I think £120 is well worth splurging.

Still had fun, despite the immensity of all of it.

Smashed my mk1 vrs's sump whilst leaving a gated community thing, the little bit the gates join at in the middle. Didn't notice how raised it was until I hit it.
Anyway, I could smell oil within about 20 seconds and pulled over about 5 seconds after the oil light came on, so hopefully the engine's not fucked.
Luckily I was only a bit up the road from the VAG specialist I usually use, so got breakdown recovery to tow it there.
Anyone know roughly how much this is likely to cost me?

Hope this is ok to ask here but im at a bit of a loss at the minute..
Im going to be getting a new car in a few months, or at least ill be in the position to be able to get a new car in a few months. My current diesel corsa is on its last legs and im just keeping it ticking over, so im in the market for a new car.
Now, I need more space than a corsa and id like to go for an estate, preferably a smaller sized estate and this is where I'm need your opinions. Iv been looking at 3 series estates, volvo v60 r-design estate and octavia VRS estates, but I don't know what to go for or even if any of these are viable options. My top end price range is 11k, with a preferred max of 45k miles on the clock. I can get any of these cars with that, granted varying ages but I just dont know what to pick, or to even go for something other than them?
I keep leaning towards the 3 series estates due to the notoriety of having solid engines, but the volvos are very comfy... Im realistically looking for something somewhat reliable, comfy and at least a tad stylish/cool, which is a lot to ask of any estate really. I also dont want to look too grandady, as im still in my 20's. Do any of you guys have experience with estates, or even these specified estates? I didnt think picking a car could be this difficult, but I really am stumped

Have you driven any of them?
I'd say that's the first port of call if you haven't. If any of them feel shit to drive (or worse than the others) you're already able to discount them.

Have driven both Volvo and BMW, but yet to try out an Octavia as there isnt one local at the minute. Both are plenty comfy, I did think the position of the pedals in the BMW were a bit weird though.
Anyone got any recommendations on other bombproof/comfy/cool sub 11k estates available?
@greenhell have you got dismal H4 halogens on your Defender or have you got the fancy pants new 7" LED headlights?
