If they have lasted since the fifties that should tell you something about their longevity.
I have some pedals on my Raleigh record sprint from the 1980's in regular use, these are loose ball type and if maintained will last a very long time to come.

Are there any specific benefits in sealed bearings versus loose bearings specifically in pedals? I have seen some nice old school (1950s) flat touring pedals with open bearings and wondered if these are less efficient and more prone to issues over the long term.
