  • Last August I came off my bike at 95 km/hour going down a hill in Yorkshire while training for a 1000 mile ride from London to Venice that I'd spent the previous 6 months organising.
I smashed my wrist into lots of tiny pieces so was unable to ride until just a few weeks ago.
Unable to ride I thought I'd get stuck in to a cycling project to have a new bike to ride when I finally got better.

I had picked up a Cannondale Supersix Evo Hi-Mod frame on ebay for cheap when bored shortly after pay-day a few months before. The frame was immaculate but didn't really get on with those graphics. So rather than sell it I'd give it a more personal touch.

    This is it before hand:

I asked one of my very good friends from my art school days, Rebecca Davies, whether she would decorate my bike for me and she foolishly said yes.

I got the great guys at Cole Coatings stripped it down and painted it white, then Rebecca drew all over it.

Then Cole Coatings added the clear coat and polished it beautifully.
This is it now, waiting for the clear coat to fully dry before I build it up.

I'll post proper pics once it is built up. Hopefully next week.

  • Rad. What are you putting on it? And what kind of pens did she use to make it stick?
Reminds me of Will Bryant's work. In fact, you should get these socks.

  • I came off my bike at 95 km/hour

    Crikey!

  • That is amazing. Bravo

  • Can we get a better shot of the logo? Is it hand-drawn?

  • Better shots of everything please! I like the chainstay drawings as well

  • That's incredible.

Truly great work there... but I'd be so scared scratching it! This is why I pick single colours for my custom frames, reduces the preciousness.

  • Love the socks. Where do I get them? Would love to get some of this stuff from Mavic but I'm now absolutely skint!

  • She used paint brush nib Posca markers. It's what Cole Coatings recommended. They said they were the most colourfast ones out there.

  • Build list so far (* for second hand parts):
    Campagnolo Chorus shifters
    Campagnolo Chorus derailleurs
    Campagnolo Record cassette and chain
    *Cannondale Spidering chainset
    *TRP 960 brakes
    *Zipp 202 Firecrest clinchers
    Veloflex tan wall 25 tyres
    Enve compact bars
    Fizik Antares R1 saddle

Still missing a decent seatpost and stem but I've now run out of cash so will have to use something from the parts bin for now. If someone wants to loan me an Enve or Zipp seatpost...?

I know that putting Campagnolo on a 'Dale will wind some people up but too bad. It's what I like.

  • this is cool! love the hand written Cannondale logo!

Not sure how gum walls will look on this, but I'm sure i'll be persuaded once I see it built up.

  • A combination of illustration and a bike frame = dream post.
Reminds me a little of Keith Haring. Can't wait to see this built up.

  • Reminds me of this. Very cool!

  • This is ridiculously cool. Reminds me of those Squid bikes. But better.

I've got a Ritchey carbon seatpost if you're looking for something on the cheap.

  • By the way, I saw a bloke on a bike with a similar paint job a couple of days ago. His bike was a disc brake single speed job with hammered silver mudguards. I think I saw him around Oval.

Anyone know what I'm on about?

  • Keith Haring, exactly! Hope that's coming back into fashion now.

  • This is rad. And congrats on not dying in that crash!

  • I went to school with Bex's brother! think I may have met you years back :)

  • Thanks, I'll PM you

  • Hi JT, you know Bradley? Did I take you to a party once many moon ago?

  • Yes I do :) I think I may have met you in Walworth with Bex, I used to live on Fielding st. Great project btw.

  • That's the easy bit done. Now I have to figure out how to get the cable though the internal routing... Anyone have any tips?
