So like a fool I mixed up my exposed and new films. Is it correct to assume that ones that look like the left are certainly used and the one on the right is certainly new?

The one on the left is the used one because the film has been rewound back into the cartridge after it's been used. The one on the right still has the leader out, ready to load into the camera.
