Respect to Hargroves Cycles (not the LBS I mentioned before) who have responded to say they can do it for me for gratis.
That's good of them. You should bring them some beer :)

Aye, was planning on it!

So people know, there's more than 1 UK distributor for Zipp, Raleigh can do as well. From an lbs point of view, it makes sense for them to charge for it, £40 is a bit steep mind, but still, if you buy a pack of Fox's biscuits from Tesco, and go for a warranty replacement at Sainsbury's they'd tell you to go back to Tesco.
There will also be a huge amount of spite involved with that £40 fee though, Zipp trade prices are all over the shop

Indeed. This is common. The UK distro model boggles my mind.

If they want to sell biscuits, they should sell biscuits :)
The shop's obligations will be detailed in the contract they have with the distro, but like I said, they often won't honor the obligations because messy / chummy / incestuous UK bike trade.

What's the current forum approved everyday road wheel set for commuting and wet training duties? Less than £200 ideally.
Shimano 11 speed for a 67kg rider.

Fulcrum 5LG

Cosine 24mm for really cheap, or the 30mm 1600g ones for £160ish?
-
• #7659
DT R24 is in the running too. Good value if the included tubeless kit is useful to you.
-
• #7660
Cheers, will look into those three options

Just checked the more expensive cosine wheels, they're actually 32mm, 1485g and 187 quid. Sorry for the duff info!

I have a set of Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels that came on my 'fast' road bike. Thinking of replacing with something slightly more aero (around 30mm rim depth) and using the Mavics for the winter bike. Worth doing? Any recommendations?

Worth doing?
How much did you lose your last race by?
-

Thinking of replacing with something slightly more aero.
Mavic Aksium.
You did says slightly!
-
• #7665
Perhaps I could have given a bit more context. The wheels on my winter bike need replacing. Thinking of swapping over the mavics which have had a few miles and getting something new for the road bike.

They'll need replacing again soon if you use Ksyriums :)
Get yourself something nice for your summer bike and use up the Ksyriums on your beater, they're not optimum but they're free and if you keep an eye on the freewheel rotor they should last a while.

Shimano RS010, or the RS11 wheelset currently on sales for around £110.
-
• #7668
Exactly, as I'm getting new wheels I thought I'd get something nice that doesn't have the downsides of the ksyriums. Nothing too fancy, just something decent, clincher, reasonably aero, easy to maintain, sram/shimano compatible. At first I thought I'd have to spend a fair bit to get something noticeably nicer, but maybe even something like the fulcrum Quattro 7 LG would fit the bill.

and the braking surface
That's a consumable on any rim braked wheel. The FTS-L freehub has a tendency to turn the hub shell into a consumable if you use it all weathers without regular cleaning.

How tight should you do up rear wheel lucknuts on a track hub? I keep getting wheel slip but don't want to tighten it too tight for fear of compressing bearings or something? Is this a genuine concern or should I tighten as much as possible?
-
• #7672
If you track nuts are affecting your bearing pre-load, there's something wrong with the design of your hubs. Notwithstanding that, the correct way to secure your wheel is with chain tugs. Take your pick from the dozens of shops and ebay sellers which sell this generic pattern

I'm looking for some wide, strong rims for my commuter. Is there anything similar to the Mavic A319 but a touch lighter? They seem a bit hefty.
-
• #7675
Wow, that's a good price. Yeah, these were the other rims I was considering but the LBS put me off suggesting the A319s as they had eyelets and were stronger. Very tempted to just order those 460s though.
Looks familiar.
